Looks like it's already been sanded and ready for a can or three of Krylon. Seller says it's working. $150 in Orange County

Those are neat looking. Not this one, so much, but in general. I wonder how much current they use?

I absolutely love ours- wouldn't be without it!

We've had it for over a year now and it uses almost nothing for power, keeps food right down at zero, and hasn't even required a defrost yet. The only downside is trying to pack square cartons in a round freezer but I can live with that. Seriously, these are great! -C

Cool! I hadn't thought about the square package issue, but it isn't like you really used very square inch of a freezer anyway.

Deep Freeze Freezer

Yes being round in shape will differently make it cheaper to run, the only shape that would be even cheaper to run would be a sphere. Most early refs and freezers and even A/C units were quite cheap to run even by today's standards.

I am sure that Cory could get Energy Star certification for his freezer if he wanted.

reason for low energy use

Can anyone explain the reason for the low energy use. Why would the round shape cause it to use less energy? Les.

LOL!

Before I actually looked at the craigslist ad I kept staring at this thinking to myself how the heck could they be successful with an ad that states you could mistake your washer for a freezer and potentially ruin a side of beef.

Darn, no photos…the ad has been deleted. So, thanks for posting yours, Cory. I'd grab one if close by.

It was the first home freezer and led to people using the trademarked name "Deep Freeze" as a generic term for freezer like "Kodak" for camera, etc.

The efficiency of the design is because of a cylinder's having less wall space or surface area for a given amount of volume. Less surface area meant less heat gain through the wall because you don't lose cold, you gain heat.
