KENMORE

Judging from the way the knobs up top are situated, it's probably a 1974.

My mom had the matching washer, an unusual/uncommon model in the upper regions of the Kenmore lineup.

Those yellowing plastic handles giveaway the period. Thanks, Ralph - I haven't seen one like this - not that I have seen ALOT, lol. :-)

1974 is correct

This is a 1974 Kenmore 70 or 700. The console that Ralph mentions was an oddity for Kenmore as it was used in only this one washer / dryer pair. The upper rim controls always remind me of an upper balcony in a theater.

The dryer door handle was in its second year in 1974. Some yellow quickly, others never do. It seems to have to do with how much exposure there was to UV rays from sunlight.

This is probably the first of these I've seen in white --- so many of them seemed to be gold or Avocado.

My aunt and uncle in Virginia had that exact model as an electric dryer in white. They bought it in the spring of 1974 when they moved into their home as their Kenmore gas dryer could not be used there. It was mated with a 1970 Kenmore 500 washer they already had, and many happy times were spent hanging around that duo. As a four year old I remember turning the dryer back on after it would go off to prevent the clothes from wrinkling. (I knew nothing about Wrinkle Guard.) Not being able to read the cycles, I would turn the dial until the light above it came on signaling to me it was ready to go. The sound of the motor starting when I pressed the button still is heaven to this day. As much as WP/KM dryer motors sounded the same from the early 70s forward, there was something about that one that sounded so cool. I always liked how the light lit up the center of the console as the dryer ran. Hopefully somebody gives it a good home.
