Another appliance I had completely forgotten about until one happened by my sight line on ebay - of course when I look closer there are loads of them.
I would reckon this to be early 1970s by the type face on the box CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

Another Kenneth Grange (Kenwood Chef) design. I think this is late 1960s or early 1970s

Again, very obviously a Kenneth Grange design - he also did a great deal of work with MR in the 1960s and 1970s. This is not unlike the Chef in that he took a long established (and perhaps somewhat outdated) design and gave it a modern makeover

Again a Grange design and wonderfully simple an unadorned it is too - functional yet stylish

Grange again, you can see the similarity to the MR above and its a wonder that he got away with two such similar designs for these are not the same driers

I think this was manufactured by Ronson, but is based on the earlier design.

I would date this back to late 1960s or maybe early 1970s - it would have been the last gasp for this double door design. I have not included the cooker in the pictures as it is a much later addition, and the hood, also much later, is shown for the Xpelair fan which is a later addition to the kitchen too. The sink had a waste disposal too.

Chestermike was joking with me at the weekend that I should get a vintage Poggenpohl kitchen and one pops up. Poggenpohl are really TOL German kitchens and this must have cost a fortune. Tempting and all as it is I have too much on at the moment to consider it. It is unusual that it has an integrated built under fridge (at least it looks like a fridge) to the left of the pull out counter. The handles tell me this was probably early 1980s although the sink and oven look rather newer than that. I rather like the track lighting too for that truly retro effect

This is definitely mid 1980s. I would look a long time at my £1000 before spending it on this in the condition it is in even if it has my beloved Neff 1056 oven - I owned one of these from 1985 until 2000 and still regret getting rid of it although I do have another Neff oven of similar vintage

to the no so sublime.
Oh how I remember these, I thought they were crap quality when they were new and I am amazed this one has stood up to well. The absolute epitome of poor quality, cheap materials. At least the price is not OTT. The sink is probably the original, its not often you see this type of "sit on" sink now. CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

Mid 1970s Tricity. This must have been the most commonly installed oven in the 1970s as the regularly show up - I dread the day when they stop appearing. This seems like a nice clean example

Do you ever get a "Gasp" moment? Well I had one when I say this.
I was not even aware that Electra sold an oven. It also confirms that the Electa cookers were, at that time, manufactured by English Electric although this looks mighty like a Tricity "under the hood". It is curious that the housing unit was clearly designed to be for a Moffat oven which was wider that the standard 60 cm unit. And the hob is a Moffat too. But this oven is too old to be a new replacement for a Moffat (they were roughly contemporary) unless it was an old unit. Or did the original purchasers of the kitchen decide on a cheaper model? Who knows. I will admit I am tempted but I am having a job accommodating all that I have. CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

This is a later version, the previous version was sold here as Sunbeam with push buttons rather than the rotary dial. I did not think they were that popular here

It is not quite correct to say that EE disappeared with the GEC takeover - the Reversomat washer and drier were in production up until around 1972 at least - I believe I have scans of a brochure (which covered EE, all of Hotpoint and the Morphy Richards spin drier) of that date. I do think as far as washers were concerned the EE name was dropped after the launch of the purple Hotpoint Liberators (and remember the first EE auto washer was called the Liberator) which I think is around 1973 (where is Paul and his spread sheets when you need him LOL). And EE manufactured the first wide body Hoover tumble drier which was replaced when the matchbox series was introduced, around the same time I think. There were EE fridges back in the 1960s but I have no idea when they were dropped. My parents bought a EE Rapide 68 cooker in 1974 - this was styled rather like the 66 (a listing for which I have posted in the last month or so) but was larger and double oven. It was bought from the electricity board so it is possible it was end of line stock but the Electra cookers carried on for at least 2 or maybe 3 years after this - they were the first "coloured" cookers on sale here I believe (aside from black/silver colours of various sorts) until the later 1970s Bellings, which were also branded as Electras too. I have seen a Tricity split level cooker from the early 1960s branded as EE but none since - this looks like a Tricity from the back although they may have just bought the components from the same supplier. Unfortunately I have now idea where the manufacturing plants were but would be very interested to hear if you have more information Al |

You can see from the picture on the box how the bread is loaded and the toast ejected. There were a number of different styles of these made to match the various coffee pots and milk warmers

Just the think for those home perms. Now if you wanted to be like Valerie Barlow and set up a hair dressing salon in your own front parlour ...... And, co-incidentally I think Valerie met her end (Calm down dear, its a TV show) with one of the MR dryers just preceding this one.
It looks in remarkably good condition and I would say 1970s by the logo CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

I am not sure if this particular variant carried on until the 1980s. I suspect that it might have been the last wringer washer on sale in the UK. Its still more or less the same design as the machine launched about 20 years previously but with updated, squared off styling and more modern control panel. This also had a foot pedal which had to be kept pressed while running the wringer

This is probably contemporary with the Siematic above. The Parkinson Cowan cooker is probably original to the kitchen. I don't think I like these tiles quite as much as the ones in the Siematic kitchen :)

I prefer the simplicity of the previous one over the rather "blingly" version here. It looks like it would have had a built in single oven and microwave, which is what leads me to think 1980s. Fantastic cooker hood

This is a non electric sweeper primarily for a quick run round to pick up crumbs and the like - it is a supplement rather than replacement for a proper vacuum cleaner. Its the third picture that intrigues me. The gas fire (and probably a central heating boiler behind it) and chair (G-Plan) place it in Britain in the 1970s - but where the hell did they get that TV console? I have no recollection of anything like that being on sale in the 1970s and even in the 1960s it would have been unusual, there probably was a radiogram behind the wooden door to the right.

I am amazed they are not keeping this with the rest of the kitchen although I suppose it is very dated and limited by todays standards and it is over 60 years old. Specifically designed to co ordinate with the English Rose units I believe there was also a gas version produced. The Grill (Broiler) is under the hob, the large square place is a combination of hotplate on top and broiler under

Another rarity. I got a picture of an English Rose fridge before but I thought its contours matched the profile of the units so I wonder if this has been adapted given the slab front. Also the interior looks slightly too old for 1950s to my mind - watch this space

Hi Pete
Great to hear from you. What an interesting find you have there. I think think you have a bit of a Frankengram there, by which I mean it has been made over with different parts. My first reaction when I saw the pictures was "that TV tube looks very square for a cabinet of that age". Likewise with the BSR record changer. I recall seeing that TV tuner on a 1970s Philips B&W TV in the 1970s it was 17" white molded plastic on a molded plastic pedestal base. The cabinet itself looks late 1950s/early 1960s perhaps Grundig. I have seen some with had the record player in one side and a wine cabinet on the other and indeed the record changer side looks rather like that might have been its original function. The knobs look 1970s as well. Interesting find though, Granada TV rentals - there is a name from the past! Al |

Looks like a nice one in good condition for 40 plus years old. Its reasonably close to me although I do consider that the price is on the high side - Tricity oven (yes another variation) or not. The ceramic hob is a much later addition, the original 4 radiant ring hob would have been much smaller as the control panel remains on the front of one of the units - a very awkward place for it to be.

Looks in good condition although it appears that the right hand "oven" is not actually an oven and there is apparently no switch or tap for it. I don't recall seeing one of these with a timer before
