Just mix Gain Fireworks with unscented Downy. If I had known so many people also missed the smell of old april fresh Downy I would of made a post sooner.

All you need is a bottle of unscented Downy and a bottle of Sweet Sizzle Gain fireworks. These have a very similar smell to the old April fresh. Pour them into the bottle of Downy, let it sit overnight, then shake the bottle up. It is THE closest scent to old Downy you can find available at pretty much every big box store.

Norge, I thought the in wash booster could not or shouldn't be used in the rinse cycle? Cheryl

Downy done got me confused! After the third try to get an answer from the Downy site about using the Downy ball in a HE top loader, I finally got a reply that PG had farmed Downy out to some other company. But if you go there it's Neimeire(?)-Downy and still no answer.

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately Sweet Sizzle now has the same nasty scent as the new Downy! I think they changed the scent about a year ago. :(

I find the Amway original scent to be really close and very pleasing. Clean smelling, not perfume drenched.

You CAN still get the old April Fresh...

...And buy it in a Downy bottle. I noticed the older style bottle (without the flower cap) at my local Walmart and decided to give it one more try. I was surprised when I smelled my laundry at the end of the wash... Just the scent I was looking for!

That Downy in no way smells anything like the original AF. Its very sweet and over powering. The original was soft with a sort of powdery scent.

I much prefer the non-concentrated April Fresh Downy. Around here it can be found at Dollar General and Walmart.

Non Concentrated

Is exactly the stuff I posted about. Sure smells powdery to me. Certainly not the sweet awful stuff they put in the new bottles.

I wonder if Lenor Spring Awakening is the same kind of scent here in UK..

*Update

Apparently it was the closest scent to April Fresh according to Lenor UK/Ireland

Lenor

The one I miss, is the Lenor concentrate in the dark blue bottle with the pink cap, shown in the advert linked below.

they all have that overpowering smell to me (unlike the old Downy)..but if I buy the generic liquid softener in blue bottle, it smells most like old April Fresh Downy to me...
