My favorite Maytags are from (roughly) '58-'60 or whenever it was they first installed water level buttons on the console and the shiny flat agitator cap with the Maytag logo on it. For reasons housing no particular logic or explanation, I don't care for the thick lid that housed the water level control and (I'm assuming) unbalanced load kick-out switch.
Questions: 1) How did the suds return work? I see a button for it, but no "Suds Return" setting on the cycle dial, as with later 'Tags. 2) What does the button to the right of "Suds Return" say? 3) Why did Maytag put the water level control in the lid in conjunction with the springy agitator cap? Other brands either had timed fills or controls on the console. 4) I like the 14-minute wash time. Didn't later machines have 12 or even 10-minute maximum wash times? Thanks in advance for any enlightenment our resident Maytag experts can provide. |
