Nice ad for Clorox and Sears -- I have often wondered why Whirlpool/Kenmore's timed bleach dispenser waits until there are only four minutes left in the wash cycle to release the bleach? I like my bleach in the wash water longer than that so I don't use the dispenser in my Whirlpools and Kenmores. Did Whirlpool do some sort of scientific bleach research to determine that four minutes was good enough for clothes to be washed in bleach? Just curious...

I believe the rational behind adding the bleach latter is that the detergent is more effective , especially if the detergent contains enzemes, if LCB isn't added at the beginning of the wash cycle. Some front loaders don't even add the LBC during the wash at all, but rather it is added during the 1st rinse.
