So just recently, a big Ford pickup had something to drop off. Hmm, no door on the top. I spot a dial peeking out... Just what could it be??

That's not a 27-inch-wide GE dryer.  Vintage, correct, but think wider....

Maybe it's the blue tape but it reminds me this:

Looks like Phil nailed it, it’s indeed a 1961 GE Combination. Thanks to Kevin for offering this one up.

I’ve had some fun the past week bringing it back to life. A number of hoses were still serviceable but heat and age had taken their toll and made them quite brittle. While working on a sticky water solenoid, the condenser injection hose cracked up, so it was time for that to go. There was also a slit in the pump inlet hose where it met the pump, but that was fixable with some new vinyl tubing and a reducing tee. In fact, the machine wouldn’t pump out (I knew this beforehand) and I pulled the pump for inspection. Turns out, the rubber impeller was slipping on the pump shaft. My fix was polyurethane (waterproof) glue, which seems to be working well so far.

A fresh pack of bulbs showed up Friday night so we’ve now got backlit dials. And the machine completed its first full wash and dry last night (with Rosalie’s) and the clothes came out clean and fluffy. Now I need to make some space…hmmm. However, I think I’ll keep this one around!

Cory,

Very interesting that the impeller was slipping on the shaft, I never would have guessed this was the cause!   That makes sense now because when it stopped draining it just simply didn't pump... I was sitting there watching it and no "snap, clunk or pop" or noise of any kind, which I thought was odd.

It makes sense some of the hoses are gone or going, they are 54 years old after all!

That's really awesome you got it going again without too much trouble!  CONGRATS!

Kevin

Gorgeous machine! Are you able to make a video of it?

Also, love the avocado center dial Maytag pair behind it! Would it be a pain to ask for some photos of those sometime?

Wow, Cory, it looks wonderful!!  The lighted dials are the icing on the cake.  Hope you have many years of combo washing!

BTW I have a ton of service information on this series of GE combos if you ever need it.

Congratulations!
