Place: Westport, CT home of an elderly lady (Not the Ricardos, Mertzes or Ramseys)

Conditions: Musty, dark basement - no power or water since house has been vacant for a while

What: A late 50's RCA Television with the channel dial and controls on the side. ALSO - - A Frigidaire WCDA-64 Custom Deluxe washer. May have the model number wrong since it was kind of dark down there. But the lid instructions definitely had 64 after the letters. Apparently not used in a very very long time as there was a White Westinghouse stack TL in the main floor bathroom.

OK so here's the deal. Apparently the cabinet isn't porcelain since the outside front and sides are riddled with rust. Probably could be refinished. Mint top and control panel, but the middle ring of the agitator is loose and wiggles and the cap doesn't lock. A bit of minor tub rust but looks like that can be abraded out. Timer knob doesn't move at all.

This could be a real challenge - no way to know if it even works at all - no power or water to test it out. The owner's niece has no idea either... Anyway, couldn't even think of taking it today so will have to wait until midweek for the niece to decide if she can be bothered to come back next weekend. After all she is very busy......

So we will have to wait and see exactly what is under the hood. More to come - - - I think.........

Oops...I didn't see that it was a cheap plastic stack TL and not the SpaceMates...nevermind!

Anthony, don't wanna assume anything so, ... that's an offset timer (knob is located under the timer display) and the knob has to be pushed in or out (I forget cuz every brand was different) so that the timer is "engaged" so one can move it around to be set--clockwise of course. Bob

Anthony, Congratulations. It's a shame that last version of the 3 ring had small, semi-flexible, but soon to be brittle plastic tabs on the side of the cap to hold it in place. They broke in no time. Bad design. Lots of times the rib that holds one or both rings in place on the barrel of the agitator wore away. If none are available in the great Frigidaire parts haul, you can always silicone it in place.

Bob - That one is unfortunately, but most definitely not an offset timer model. The problem I noticed with the timer knob was that I couldn't push it in or pull it out. The rusty front and sides of the cabinet puzzle me a bit. Even though it was in a New England basement, it was on a concrete block since November 8 1965 (carved in the concrete). But then, 40 years in a basement is a long time no matter how you slice it...

Now we will have to wait and see if the niece is willing to let me back in to get them...
