Shipping Info

John,

I bought a old Frigidaire dryer west of Fort Worth and had it shipped to Denver. In fact is is supposed to arrive sometime this morning (That is why I'm up so early on a Sunday). I called Johnson Moving and Storage and they said their minimum load was around 2200 pounds when I told them i just needed a dryer moved. They suggested a place called Ship Smart. I gave them the contact name of Julie from Johnson and got a discount. Ship Smart's number is 1-800-554-5574. They quoted me $395.00 for the dryer, picked it up for me , shrink wrapped it and were going to deliver it on a pallet. I'll e mail yiur regular e mail and tell you if that was the case when it arrived today. It is coming to my house via ABF Freight and they called last Thursday to set up a time to deliver in a four hour window. Back to Ship Smart for an extra charge they will deliver the item to inside your house if that is necessary. Before they could deliver it , Ship Smart contacted me and it was stated in the contract that additional charges may be possible if their weight estimate is off. That was the case with me and I had to pay an extra $86.00. They also allow you to purchase insurance to cover the cost of the shipment if it is damaged. So I paid $25.00 insurance for full replacement cost of the item for loss or damage. The isurance is based on $100 deductible. $25.00 cost per $1,000 declared value. This was the lowest insurance. So I told them The value was the dryer was $100.00 and 25 per cent of that was $25.00. Now this does take a while. I signed the contract a month ago 3/30 and it is being delivered today 4/30.

Rich

Hi Jon, many of us here use Beltman Shipping

John, I used Beltman to arrange moving of my first stove bought on Ebay. It arrived at a moving and storage place a few miles from me so I went and picked up the stove rather than have to deal with a delivery. Everyone was so kind and helpful that when I needed to arrange shipping for another big item, I just called the people where I picked up the first range and they quoted me a price very much in line with the earlier Beltman quote. Both times I had my new treasure in less than a week and the second time, the actual charge came in $6.00 under the estimate! When I went in to pay for the second range, John, the nice and very easy on the eyes guy at the counter said, "Well, Tom, you got another range. It's larger than the first, but not quite as perfect."

I said, "Yeah, it's wider, but not as tall and 9 years newer. I had to get it because I have memories of this one going back more than 40 years and I will probably never see another one." So, if you use Beltman and can go to the moving warehouse to pick up your item, you might make some good, local contacts to help you in the future. Tom

About how much would it cost if one used a company like Beltman to crate and ship, say, 1 washing machine across country?

You have to call them and get a quote because their prices change with gas prices, in other words they are more expensive now than they were a year ago.

Beltman came in at 635.09 and craters and freighters came in at 471.94 Guess who I picked. Can't wait till it gets here. hope this helps everyone out there as this is about as far as we can ship. and at present fuel prices and my last shipping quotes I do not think it is too bad. However it will be a while before I ship anything this distance again.
I love My vintage Appliances. and as I live in the land Of rust I have to pay for this. Most old appliances rotted away as they were built and used before central air was put into the building codes here.

thanks all for your help
John.
P.S. Will post pics when it gets here.

You do realize this is thread from 14 years ago don't you? Have a feeling his shipping issue has long since been sorted out.
