OK, this may be Blasphemy to some, but I always have to experiment for some fun, or actually doing what they say can't be done....

so we take a regular Speed Queen washer.....Commercial duty from the Military....

and with a quick flip out and install of a GE hydrowave dual action.....which actually fits the agitator hub.....and suddenly rollover and capacity for larger loads is no trouble for the Queen.....

Post video!!! I would love SQ to design a dual action. Maybe still with wavy vanes somehow to keep that Speed Queen character.

Martin-

Pls post a video of that Queen putting that dual action agi thru the paces. Would love to see what kind of action you are getting from that. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in your transformation.

BTW did you try putting the SQ in the GE since you put the GE in the SQ just to see what you get?

Rick

That's so funny you did that because I bought a Speed Queen agitator to put on my Hydrowave but the hub was a different size lol. I wanted to see how it worked in there.

Thank you Robert for posting that link on the toilet/washer, funny.

I would also like to see a vid of the Queen with the hydrowave agi...

Joe, its probably not the size, but rather the slot setup.....I didn't think the GE would fit, or work, but it did....

wondering if the hubs would interchange.....I don't have a full GE machine to check on something like that.....but was always a curiosity of mine....

personally I think the vanes of the SQ could be a bit larger, they work great for small to medium loads, but on the super size ones, could use a little more kick....

I bet that dual action works great with SQ's nice long stroke. I'm surprised SQ has not put a DA in their TL machines. It would help a lot moving large loads, especially with their lower water level these days.

actually with this DA in place and the taller spirals, you can add a more substantial amount of water and clothing.....really increasing its capacity

Very good idea.  I've wondered if other agitators could be used on that hub.

What is the SPM of the Speed Queen?

This time a Maytag with a Kenmore Roto-Swirl. This washer belongs to Bob S. in Cleveland. I have a short video that I will post soon.

A Roto Swirl in a Maytag!

Would HAVE to improve it, a Tag is lousy at turnover with anything more than a med size load.

Maytag/Kenmore video

jeff_adelphi's profile picture

Here's a short video of Bob's Maytag washer with a Kenmore Super Roto-swirl agitator. The washer has the larger 50 cycle motor pulley for faster wash and spin speeds. Bob says it has better turn-over then with the Maytag agitator.

I don't know the details of how it's attached, but the Kenmore agitator is grafted on top of the Maytag agitator.

Can we get details on this conversion-this would be good to know! What sort of mod made to the washer and agitator to accomplish this? Its a GREAT Mod!So if I spot an older Maytag at the swap shop-I can "Primp my Maytag" with the Roto Swirl-usually the swap shops have these and other agitators lurking in their junk piles.

That one really pushes the envelope: A Kenmore agitator grafted onto a Maytag agitator topped off with a Whirlpool cap.  It looks so wrong in that 'Tag...but wow, witness the classic Kenmore no-holds-barred rollover.

Thanks for sharing these mad, mad experiments with us, Martin, DanManTN, Bob, and Jeff.

yeah, the RotoSwirl seems to work best in a Maytag, plus tack on the 50hz upgrade....

I tried a GE straight vane once, with a regular pulley, nothing spectacular, but was meaning to try out a GE ramped, thinking that would give better results, and by the look of the Kenmore version, it works really well....

John and I talked about heat welding the two polypropylene skirts together. I , too, am curious about how this was done.

I saw that set in bob's garage. The dryer is pretty well done, he transferred the entire top of an older model on a newer base. He said that the wiring was pretty straightforward

Tom, thermoforming plastics generally weld fairly well and it's a pretty simple thing to do. Polypropylene is one of the easier plastics to weld too. We have a plastic welding setup here at the machine shop. Years ago we made a number of tanks and fixtures all from Polypro for a local semiconductor manufacturer. Years ago I worked with a local motorcycle shop and we welded broken fairings, most of this was ABS (easy) or Nylon (not so easy).

A plastic welder is basically a concentrated heat gun that looks like a large pencil-style soldering iron. They will use either compressed air or nitrogen or other inert gas which the element heats to as much as 900 deg F. Often times there is a tip that has a plate that helps press the filler material into the weld area.

Joint design is very important for plastic welding. The filler material goes soft (plastic state) but never really flows like when welding metals. It is important to get a close fitting joint. Provided two agitators could be fit together decently they could be welded easily and securely. Dr. Frankenstein the lab is calling!
