So I looked back here for DW buying advice concerning a built-in full size model and found the newest post to address this question is about five years old. Imagine models have changed enough to make the question relevant again. Looks like its time to replace my parents 1996 GE Potscrubber. Just looking for the cheapest option that will get the dishes clean as expected. Pots/pans and really dirty items usually don't get put in the DW.
I know they aren't going to go for something like Bosch or Miele. Is Whirlpool/Kenmore still a good performer? Maytag was mentioned in the old thread. So far have only checked out what GE has to offer. Like the look of model GDF520PGJCC which is one of their more basic models with a MSRP price of $400.00. Has three wash arms and an adjustable upper rack. Consumer reviews on it are pretty favorable. Most all comments state it cleans well. A couple users stated they would prefer the silverware basket in the bottom rack rather than in the door as it doesn't always clean items. Also if tall items were to be put in the center it can interfere with the opening of the soap cup. It can also be hung on the front of the bottom rack. Biggest complaint is the long running times of 2 or more hours. This is something that annoys me but I realize its pretty much the norm with all makes today. I also see that even though the GE still has a food chopper it has a removable filter in the tub bottom. Ive read postings here by members complaining about having to deal with these filters but I guess theres not much that can be done about it as that's also something that most all also have today. Personally I wouldn't mind finding a nice, low mileage older GE or Kenmore/WP Ultrawash but don't know how keen the folks would be with a used unit. Haha! I JUST posted a similar post to this. My parents went out and got a new GE model a few points above yours.
I wanted to know too, how these new modern dishwashers REALLY perform from the PowerUsers here. The reviews I saw were really no help at all. Lots of non-mechanically inclined people moaning about things likely attributed to them loading the racks wrong; cheap soap; etc. Good Luck! I'll keep these posted with real results from my parents' purchase of course. |
