Phil. I don't know if you get many thanks for all your hard work in finding and posting vintage items for AW.org. If you don't you should. And if people do thank you then let me thank you some more!!

You're the BEST!!

Barry

birthday

By the way, Phil. On your AW profile, you have MCM (Roman Numerals for 1900) listed as the year of your birth. Let me be the first to tell you do quite well for a 115 year old!!! :)

Phil, your finds are greatly appreciated and so are the photos!  Thank you.

And when you do find an Empress and it's turquoise, be prepared for fireworks... LOL   Oh, heck, I'll settle for an SU70...

If it wasn't for Phil and his searching, time, patience & postings, I wouldn't have found my gold set of A806 & DE808 maytags. So a genuine & heartfelt "THANK YOU" to you Phil.

Phil, you are AWESOME, AMAZING, & (my favorite) "OUTTA SIGHT"!!!

Much love & thanks to you my friend...

;o)

Hotpoint Empress

ovrphil's profile picture
I have never seen or heard of an Empress. Is this a Hotpoint Empress you are referring to? If so, weren't those a U.K./Europe marketed product(not USA). Though kitchen appliances, stereos, cars, houses, air conditioners, and almost everything else seems to pull me more than washer and dryers, I have to admit, the Hotpoint Empress is really neat looking. I found an ad for it, but it's probably in the aw.org resource or even archives. Is this the Empress you are talking about, Paul and Ken?

Though I've been here long enough to have learned something about washers and dryers, and many other collectibles, you all keep reminding me how much there is to learn and discover. Since I'm 115, my memory isn't what it used to be, but the discovery of what is still available from the 1900's is partly why I'm still posting. Thanks to everyone here at aw.org, I found something in common with others that was essentially just sleeping along, many years. Mid-century design and manufactured items, plus so much more, has always been something I followed and enjoyed. I didn't get an awakening til seeing Robert and Fred on some tv show, but when a cluser-f of things happened in my/our life, aw.org and retro-renovation were found and I really found a way to heal and be happy in the process.

Some people who used to hang out here at aw.org are gone or absent. Thank you, in case you're lurking. There's a lot of people who occasionally post and some of those archives are great - thanks for posting. I learned and became more inspired to discover what's out there. Though the best stuff is probably impossible to find, I'm glad I found a few things that meant something to someone. They benefited and it educated me. I admit, I don't always retain it all. I'm blown away by the knowledge here, some from job-related and others from being avid hobbyists. You have given me a way to work out some personal transitions that alot of us have been through or may be going through now. I mentioned this before, so
not to beat a dead horse....

Barry, you're funny...appreciate you for posting something you mentioned before. People have mentioned that they appreciate the postings. But honestly, if it wasn't for other people's postings, I would NEVER be motivated to do what I've done. This includes you and everyone else, especially Ultramatic(Louis) who used to post often, and had some of the most interesting appliances. I really had no idea that these weren't all scrapped or buried in rubbish mountains!

PhilR - I still can't get over how many Phil's have been through the aw.org doors here. I appreciate your interests and I thank you for awakening me, like others, to all those cool Frigidaire appliances. The other stuff? You really need to build a museum soon. LOL!

Paul - can I say, as a straight man, you are a real sweetheart. I hope your collection, some of which I guess I helped increase, is never at a loss for space. If your husband has let you collect this much this long, I guess you know the art of buy and sell. I'm struggling with that now, as this small space won't let me put more than a washer and dryer in here. I appreciate what you have collected, from the few things I've seen.

Hippiedoll - I can't help think of my college years when I saw Jimi Hendrix live and Janis Joplin (in Ann Arbor, MI) when I see your name. Anyways! You are another sweetie for being entirely over-gracious. I appreciate the energy you possess...that's what it's like to be young, right? LOL! Thank you - you're welcome. Next posting? :-)

CircleW - Tom, thank you very much! I put too much effort into the photos at times, but sometimes I think of bajaespuma(Ken)artwork, and having the art background, I'm almost feeling guilty if I don't try to make it visually easy and fun to view. Again, I need a real job, maybe. :-)

To many others who might enjoy, now and then, anything I posted, you're welcome. I 'm sorry if I posted too much of some brand and not enough of another (?) or types of appliances. And to Yogitunes, Ultramatic, Redcarpetdrew, danemodsandy, combo52, launderess(?name), tomturbomatic, tolivac, jetcone, appnut, Robert who made this possible, Cadman(!), and MANY other helpful, interesting, funny people that I know I am not mentionin. Thanks, guys, for the experience and inspiration!

PhilR - I hope I find a few goodies, too. Many of the collectors here have so many beautiful appliances and items, it's visual/sensory overload for me. Thanks again PhilR for being another inspiration source.

But I'd like to say thanks too! All the advice you gave to me when I got my 806s nearly three years ago was invaluable!  You are a scholar and a gentleman!

Right "Phil"?

ovrphil's profile picture
Atomict - Are you sure it was me?

I can't imagine that it was me, as I was just becoming familiar with vintage machines, three years ago. Not to take away any extended appreciations, thank you, but maybe the guy you're thinking of was PhilR (sorry he has the same first and last initials as me). Anyways - thanks and keep those shorts clean. Lol!

I don't think it was me either! There must be another Phil!

But I just read Tony's former posts just to see if I had posted things that I didn't remember and I saw he's the one who offered me the 1959 Frigidaire refrigerator some time ago. I couldn't get it soon as I expected and then I completely forgot about that.

Now, I have one just like it (or almost!). Mine has the wrong color upper panel. Tony, I'll send you a PM!

Phil - thank you for your kind words!  We may never have met in person but I feel I know you.  I hope one day our paths will cross at a Wash-In or other appliance-themed event!!

The "Empress" that Ken and I would likely have a slap-fest over is a GE dishwasher that was made between 1958 and 1960 that was a 30-inch wide pull-out model. Better still it had a motorized drive mechanism to open and close the tub!  A find like that would be something else indeed!

laughing my ashes off!

Thanks Paul, I'll keep those ideas in focus here, too.

That GE sounds cool; oh-oh, another item to lookup and maybe find(not expecting to , but who knows?) Here's your response to one Aussie-Plugs posted.

...ralph(rp2813), Fred(blackstone), Kevin313(Kevin ), twintubdexter, and again I mean everyone..thank you ... for posting your interests and/or commentig. It has been fun reading old and new posts which are unique to the internet. I don't think there's another place that has contributed so much to vintage appliances as this place. You guys have made the time spent here so worth the effort. (Have a great holiday weekend)
