Lest start the new month with a classic. The Neff oven first appeared in the 1970s, and was discontinued in 1984. Neff ovens of this vintage are amongst the finest you can buy, I have this same model in my own kitchen

This is of similar age to the Neff previously listed, not 20 years old, more like 40. NIB its an oven with warming compartment rather than double oven like the Neff. Self cleaning oven which is not so common in Europe

Great links again Alistair!
The Bosch coffee grinder is the economy version with a smaller reservoir and a push button instead of a timer. I had a Bosch too, but with a bigger reservoir. I had a white one, like the one in this picture (picture from the internet) We discusses already the differences between the UK and the continent. We never got the open burners you had on many cookers and hobs. We only had the solid burners here, like on the AEG hob. |

Thanks for your input Louis, always appreciated. I could never understand why the coil burners did not catch on in Europe, they first appeared here in the late 1950s, often one coil to accompany solid plates, but by about 1964 solid plates had almost entirely disappeared.
It was really not until the mid 1980s that solid plates re-appeared here when built in units began to be imported in bulk - chiefly Neff, Bosch and Zanussi. There had been a few around before, like the AEG above, but not many. This coincided with the adoption of built under ovens, an arrangement common in Europe but again, not here until mid-1980s. |

I have posted some of these in the past, but this is one of the earliest I have seen - this must be from the 1930s, maybe even 1920s. 15am plugs were unfused so I do not know if this unit would have an internal fuse for the socket or not

Belonging to a deluded owner - deluded if they ever think it would fetch Ł500 or anything like it. Mostly the kitchens I post are, or were, luxury kitchens, this is far more MOL (and lower MOL at that!) and very common in 1970s houses. The cooker is a Creda Horizon 22 with fan oven and is the only bit worth considering, but never at that price

but not retro - its about 15 years old, maybe slightly more. Bosch venturing into SMEG territory, but as far as I recall there was only this one model. Of course now retro style fridges are all over the place.

Been busy the last few weeks but time to get those vintage goodies back in sight.
Lets kick off with a Parkinson Cowan from mid 1970s. This was pretty much a BOL gas range, about 20 inches wide, my sister had one of these new after she was married in 1974 only hers had a black door. CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

I have posted these before, but I don't recall a wood grain one. The pictures show its origin, its a regular range that has had a chain saw taken to it. The cupboards were supplied along with range (I have seen them before) although I recall an article from Practical Householder in the early 1970s which showed how to make such a unit. Its not cheap ....

Topline was the name previously applied to the old Jackson models with eye level oven-ette. They revived the name for this late 1980s more conventional cooker, pitched as an alternative to the Belling Format

UK manufactured (the earlier Moffats were Canadian) and based on the Tricity 21" wide range of cookers - Tricity was within the same group - two ovens and two grills (broilers).

This is contemporary with the 21" version above, but in this case there was no Tricity equivalent and indeed this model would have been more TOL than the 21" My recollection is that, as well as being wider, its also rather deeper than the 21". Large main oven with oven-ette. I always like these, if it were not a bit far .....

And definitely 1970s. That dishwasher placement is highly unusual but could well be original (dishwasher is not) as the cabinet is a bit large for a conventional oven and the opening looks too small for a Moffat Oven. I quite like the open shelves/dresser effect

At first glance this kitchen does not look all that much, obviously good in its day, now it bit sad. A closer look at the wall cupboards shows that it is a, seldom seen, Multyflex kitchen from the early 1970s. The handles on the base cabinets must have been replaced at some point. Where the fridge is would have been a built in model. One has to wonder about the oven, it looks good but that the control switch is all taped over indicates that there may be a problem somewhere. The ceramic cooktop is not original

Mid-late 1980s I would say, but don't quote me. Gadget boy should have invested in a couple of bottle of Oven Pride I would say

This is the predecessor to the Hoover branded mixer above, late 1950s early 1960s.

That Philips mixer was their first one. It was launched in 1959. This one is in a different box than my grandmother's. That box was higher and narrower, the mixer stood right up in the box. I've never seen the spatula before, I don't think my grandmother's came with that. She was very particular about her stuff, so she would have had it in her kitchen drawer (or in the box where she always kept the mixer in).
I have a question about your/that Neff oven. Is that already a convection oven? |

Al Is that top loader a Hoover? There seems to be something round and red at the top left that might be a Hoover roundel. I guess it might make it an Australian import would it? Ian |

I have one of those mixers myself, I will have to look at the box it is in. The spatula may just be a lucky find which happens to fit the box. My Neff oven is fan only in the main oven with a static oven/grill below. I know from previous researches that earlier versions had a static oven in the main chamber. I believe the earlier verson had four knobs, this comes from enquiring about one on ebay before I bought the one I now have. I went to work for a kitchen company in late 1984 and this range had not long been replaced at that time. I bought one of the last 1057 models (with push in controls) and although the main oven was similar the lower oven on the 1057 had a top element additional to the grill and element in oven floor, my 1056 does not have this Al |

Well spotted, I think you may be correct. From what I have seen of these washers I thought it might be Hoover, but of course I am no expert. I am always amazed by how many of these Australian top loaders crop up here as I dont believe there were ever marketed by the companies here so they must be oersonal imports. I would like one sometime but no time to do the trip this weekend Al |

This I think would be slightly older than the one just finished. Looks in good condition although Great Yarmouth is not the most convenient place to get to

Sounds like a wonderful oven Alistair!
Here's something special I think. Not in the UK but Norway. It's an English Electric. www.finn.no/finn/torget/annonseQU... |

That Australian top loader is indeed a Hoover. Very good machines, certainly gave the clothes a good wash. The two smaller dials are not original as has been said but the timer dial is original. These ones seemed to be the last models with the 'older' style of Hoover drum and agitator and agitation. Soon after this they began to be manufactured by Electrolux who also manufactured Simpson top loaders and the two basically became clones of each other just with different 'clothes' on.
Heres a vid that Josh filmed of his, same machine just with an added Drip Dry function dial... |
