After almost sixty years, the tub bearings on my 1947 Bendix are due for replacement...here are pictures of my wonderful mechanic, Manny, or--as I call him, Dr. Manny--taking the machine to his shop...

Hi Ross, I don't know if you guys know this but unfortunately tub bearing in the early Bendix bolt down machines are a specialized size and not available at standard bearing retailers. Hopefully Manny has some NOS Bedix bearings or a good parts machine.

If there is a part number on the bearing... perhaps one could look it up on the internet?

Otherwise... sol...

Hi Steve. Manny got his start on unimatics and speed queens. So far he has been able to work on my machines. When he got the bolt down kenmore, the rubber part at the bottom of the outer tub which connected to pump was gone, but he was able to use sink pop up assembly and it works fine. Before I buy a machine, I check with Manny of "Action Appliance" here in Tucson, Az. and as long as he says he can handle the machine, I go for it.

Sink Pop-Up Assy.

Do you have to pull up on the rod to wash and push it down to drain? ;-)

That is actually a great idea, it will never rust and can easily accomodate a hose to direct the water to the pump. In the 51 Kenmore that I got from Chris last summer, I used a cut-off Maytag spray tube to replace the tub-to-pump hose that was brittle and cracked. Where there's a will, there's always a solution!

Good luck on the Bendix, Manny and Ross!
