My uncle has owned this very stove since 1974 and it is still working today minus one burner. This was one of the first Corning stoves with burners that didn't require the perfectly ground bottoms of special Corningware pots and pans; it could heat regular cookware as long as they had flat bottoms. The burners were reasonable fast for solid-top units and the oven, being a GM Frigidaire stove for the most part, was a spectacular performer. They had an auxiliary L&H wall oven with nichrome little coils that lasted from the mid-fifties to the nineties.
He and his partner most probably selected it for it's styling. Their model had a white porcelain enamel door and it looked like a product that could have been made by Bang&Olufsen (they do look like Stereo knobs) and/or featured in MOMA. One of the most beautiful appliances I've ever seen.
