Wow, that's beautiful! Freestanding as well, even better for display in your collection. I love the stainless steel racks - they'll last forever and ever!

Oh John that is a great find, the very first KitchenAid dishwasher and as Greg said free standing too! I also love Stainless Steel racks, I wish all vintage dishwashers had them.

I found the diswasher on Craigs list. It was still in the kitchen that it was first installed in. The people that bought the house had a home inspection done and the inspector was very impressed with it and gave it passing mark. I to love the racks.
Greg the Lady Kenmore is doing fine She is still my dream machine and I dare say she always will be. Will post more when it gets here.
John

Very neat machine...congrats!!! I have never heard of a freestanding KitchenAid before; how neat that they actually were in existence!

Since this is the first KitchenAid dishwasher, what year would this one be? Late-1940's?

Interesting. There was one of these available on CL here locally last month. I had just picked up the KD-2P, so I passed on it. From the pics, it looks like the one I passed on was in no where near as good condition as yours, though.

Question: were all the KD-10's free-standing, or were some built-in?

A freestanding KD-10 would have worked well enough on my patio kitchen, since I decided on a more or less permanent location for it at the end of the countertop. Although plumbing the water inlet and drain lines would have been a challenge. The vintage sink has a wall mounted faucet with steel rigid supply lines, and no provision for a disposal or dishwasher on the drain.

Numerous brands had both free standing as well as built-in and some had the sink combos too. If I remember, Apex had an ad with a freestanding, GE, Hotpoint, and Westinghouse. I"m not sure how long this style was marketed though.
