they are great performing  machines when you get them up and running.
These had flaws but not many, you can google Neptunes on you tube and find many videos about problems and how they are repaired. There are quite a few dealers on ebay that will sell rebuild kits for just about all the major problems in these machines.
Early models - before yours I think had trouble with door locks failing and causing a cascade failure in the main board. Mine had this problem. All models eventually the bearings wear out and that sounds like one of your problems- there are kits to replace them, its the tool that costs $$$ but there are people who rent out the tool As too the control board I have never worked on the electronic models perhaps someone here has the experience.
As to the mold and rust that sounds like outdoor problems.

I have a set of MAH5500s currently in storage because I can't seem to get it to balance. I enjoyed that set fully but i think I'm missing parts to it. Hopefully I have better luck with this set, I just wish i could figure out why they just buzz twice then do nothing else. | ||

I don't mean to offend you. I don't mean to offend you, but the Maytag Neptunes are the worst washer and dryer pair I have ever seen! They mold and mildew quickly! They don't dry properly! They vibrate out of control! There are always error codes! | ||

There are always error codes!Nope, disagree. My neighbor has had an MAH6500 for 8 years (bought new just before they were dropped off the market). No error codes, no malfunctions, no repairs. He had found a matching dryer for free on CraigsList about a year before he bought the washer. The "sellers" had abused and worn it down to the point the drum support bearings were shot and the edge of the drum tore through the inner panel. I refurbed it and it has worked great now for 9 years. | ||

yeah, I don't know what your talking about......my first original pair I bought brand new, after 14 years, the bearings finally needed replaced.....
not to mention, what mold/mildew issue?.....drying issues?.....error codes? when operated properly, I have never experienced any of these issues.....I don't leave my doors or dispenser lids open, and I don't run a clean washer cycle, in fact, these don't even have that!.....

well, as one member named them, 'the fleet'......I also sort of like the wave of the control panels......
besides, once you get used to rebuilding a few, their easy as pie to work on.....plus a few spares for parts.....what you see in the pics is just whats hooked up....all gas dryers....and one stacked set... I have 3 adopted kids, and foster kids as well, upwards of ten at a time, I HAVE LAUNDRY!!!.... all the ones I have are the 5500 series, non heater, thought about searching for ones with a heater, but all it does is raise the temp to 140, my water heater delivers temps higher than that.....very few stain brain units ever come along... | ||

You must've seen some BAAAD Neptunes then there buddy.
The laundromat I used to go to back in college had 2 rows of Neptunes. Running constantly. Other than dealing with the weirdness of other peoples' laundry, those Neptunes never seemed gross or smelly, or shaky, or loud, or weird in any way. If you ask me, the Neptune was sort of a trail blazer in the US market! And performed admirably well. Sure it had some issues, and Maytag got sued for them. But they fixed a lot of those issues in later models. And if WP didn't scoop them up, they probably would've come out with a new front load line with lots of lessons learned. | ||

not everyone is going to have bad luck, or good luck with the same machine.... and everyone has their own habits of how to do laundry, or operate a machine, and adapt to it quirks....to each his own... for many issues with machines of any brand, there can be a glitch somewhere along the lines......mostly I have found it to be operator error....especially when you see a comment of 'the machine spilled bleach on a dark load!'....yeah, right, the machine did it......I would love to see a video of that, didn't know they made machines that could lift that bottle and pour it all over your laundry....that's amazing....people don't want to change their ways, or be told, the problem could be them.....they don't have the ability to pull themselves back from the equation and think otherwise.... like it or not, mine keep chugging along.... | ||

Please tell us..... in your 22 years of being on this earth, what experiences have YOU had with Maytag Neptune?? For example, have you or your family ever owned a pair to form such negative opinions?
I have a MAH 3000 and not had of the problems you described. PLEASE back up your opinions with hard facts.... not just hearsay. | ||

I would have sold my soul to have a Maytag Neptune back when I was younger. That's when we had just gotten our Atlantis MAV6300, which I adored and is still going now at my father in law's. Those brochures for the Neptune at the time had me salivating though. I'd have made a place for a second washer in that old house we lived in, lol. If I had the chance to get one now I'd jump in a heartbeat, though I could only hope that I would hit a lucky strike and find one that was well cared for, and we all know how unlikely that normally is.
That stacked unit is beautiful though!! I can look at the picture and just hear the sloshing of that balance ring; takes me back to when Tuscumbia, AL had a true Maytag store. I'd beg to go to Spring Park just to walk up the hill and go in the store, and I'd always have to open one up and turn that tub by hand and loved the sound it made. | ||
