Hi all,

This lovely machine came with my fantastic Hotpoint Micro Profile. It originally came from CJ (thanks CJ!) and it's my first step into the world of Servis automatics. I'm led to believe that it's a very rare model and most likely a retailer or catalogue exclusive but I'm not sure which one. It is based on the Quartz Plus and was made sometime during 1990 which is quite late for a machine of this style as the Sapphire was already on sale and the company was about to go into liquidation the following year (1991). If anybody can shed some light on the Spectrum+ I would be glad to know a bit more about it.

The machine is in very good condition and it doesn't need any work done to it other than a scrub and a polish which will be done sometime this week. It did have a sticky on/off switch but it turns out the mechanism was just stuck after a long period of disuse so that is now sorted.

I do quite like the subtle pink line across the dispenser handle LOL and overall I'm very happy with this machine. I've certainly noticed the difference in dimensions compared to the Hotpoints which makes it easier to place in my wooden house. Very stable when spinning too!

James

I never thought I'd see sight like this in person so soon!

That's all for now...

never even heard of this but I do like the logo. I imagine that a nursery or something would have it as the sort of child like writing and a pastel colour is the theme that most baby gear, clothes and toys carried at the time :)
Will you be doing anything about the yellowing?

Luke

Hi Luke,

Servis had another Spectrum model before this one but overall the Spectrum name is virtually unheard of. I can't do anything about the yellowing as it's one of those inevitable things that happen to old plastic. It's yellowed evenly so I'm not that fussed to be honest and it's still a lovely machine.

Yellowing

James have you heard of retrobrite?

Hi Luke,

Yes I have heard of Retrobrite however I don't fancy using harsh chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide on the machine. I'm content with the way it is.

I just read an article about retr0brite last week. It seems the bleaching affect is only temporary. Even pieces that were stored away from sources of UV, the yellowing returned after about 3 years.
