Hello everybody. I was wondering which dishwasher is the best for cheese enchilada removal, or any other hard to clean food for that matter. One time, I was at Texas School for the Blind. They had Whirlpool power clean dishwashers in their dorms. One time, I put an enchilada pan straight into the dishwasher. It was stuck onto the glass dish. When one of the RI's named Joel opened the dishwasher, he said, "Who put the enchilada pan straight into the dishwasher?" I told him that I was doing a test. So I put a shot of Cascade in the machine and put it on pots and pans with high temp wash and hit start. When the cycle was done, the pan was completely clean. Which new dishwasher will come close to the power clean or point voyager dishwasher? I'd like to know. Thanks.

I'll short-cut this for you: None. No other dishwasher will clean Cheese Enchilada and Guacamole pans as well as a Whirlpool Power Clean. In fact, I believe cheese enchilada and guacamole pans were specifically cited in the owner's manual.

Now, hop on the interweb and find one for yourself.

whirlpool point voyager

I think the point voyager works well too, but I'd take Whirlpool's most powerful dishwasher. The new Maytags may claim to have the most powerful motor on the market, but I would like to see how it would do on the above mentioned tough stains.

I can see how Cheese Enchilada could be hard to remove - but why Guacamole? Isn't it just a dip?

Actually my Miele does an awesome job on that kinda stuff. Pots and Pans is the most powerful cycle and has the most water pressure and water temp...up to 172F during the wash cycle. Nothing survives on my pots and pans. I also use Somat powder that runs circles around Cascade and Finish. I can also add a Soak to the wash cycle as well as an option.
I have used a Whirlpool PowerClean dishwasher and they are very effective in washing but they don't heat up like a Miele does.

My reverse rack Maytag pretty much cleans whatever I put in it. You can stand a baking dish up on its side in the upper rack so it gets hit by both the upper spray arm and the lower spray tower. My point voyager based KitchenAid cleans well too, I rarely ever have rejects from it.

nmassman, where did you get Somat? I have been impressed with Persil from Henkel since it has became widely available here and wanted to try their dishwasher detergent.

either dip or topping

I have used guacamole as both a dip and a topping. And yes... it can be hard to clean if smeared on. Cheese enchilada and guacamole remains don't stand a chance with my point voyager dishwasher... nor with the Cascade complete action packs I put in it. I use the citrus breeze ones so it will keep the dishwasher smelling fresh and clean. They will pack a serious punch!

I buy Somat dishwasher detergent powder at Amazon. They also have the tablets and rinse aid as well. I also use the Somat dishwasher salt for the built in water softener that my machine has.

I'm quite pleased with the performance of the Bosch at my mother's house. It's nine years old now and cleaned those casserole dishes that had been baked in and reheated at 350F several times just fine.

I think high heat hot water and a good detergent are the keys to this problem. Our Maytag would make easy work of that. We never prerinse anything and are always satisfied with the results. But then again we select boosted heating and Sani-Rinse options when cleaning these kinds of messes.

I have a Miele DW and regularly wash a burned on, stuck on potato Au Gratin casserole  along with cheese covered plates in it.  My model has a cheese cycle especially designed for it.  I think the newer ones have replaced this with the cycle to wash exhaust filters and stove grates but it will probably do just as good of job.

The cycle on my machine starts with a 25 minute heated prewash(I use Finish powdered detergent in the prewash, and a Finish Quantum tab in the main wash), then does a wash at 170F, two rinses and dry.

No burned on or stuck on cheese is left...even after letting the pan and dishes sit out for two days.

Cascade Complete

I use Cascade complete to combat those stubborn stains, like baked on cheese enchiladas, smeared on guacamole, lasagna, gravy and more. I use the high temp wash option to boot.

I can't think of a more appropriate picture. I'm frantically looking for a "mute" button on this site but alas, there is none.
