THAT'S RIGHT...
i've been hesitating to post my latest maytag find on here, for fear that my find would end up being a bust. BUT, thanks to roger, if it hadn't been for him, this latest maytag find would not be up & running! so a BIG "thank you" to roger for all your amazing help!! roger is truly the superstar in this post here!! so, it's been about 3-4 weeks since i bought this coppertone maytag. let me tell you the story.... i found it on craigslist and was surprised that it was still available after being on craigslist for about a week. so, i contacted the seller and made plans to meet up with him to checkout the coppertone maytag. i called roger and asked him if he could come along with me to give me his opinion & see what he thought. so, we went and roger said it looked to be in pretty good condition. the paint did have a couple scrapes & scratches but, nothing to make it seem beat up or abused. so, i bought it. the guy selling it said that the washer (& house) belonged to an old couple that had been moved into a nursing home and the house & everything inside stayed unoccupied for years. the company he works for bought the house and him & his workers clear out the houses & make repairs to the houses & get them ready for resale. so, we didn't get much history on the washer. there was a later model, white GE dryer paired with this coppertone maytag washer. there was also a built-in coppertone maytag dishwasher they were selling. i don't know the model number but i think it's like 600 or something like that? i thought about buying it too but, i didn't see any wash-arm inside. and plus it had spiderwebs in it. so, we brought the washer home & checked it all out. the bad news: the motor burned out on us. the timer motor wasn't working. the light bulbs (yes 2 LIGHTBULBS) were both burned out. it had a syphon-break drain hose (ugly). the water injector was leaking. the top of the washbasket was crooked & when the washer went into spin, it was wearing away at the rubber water inlet hose that connects to the top of the washtub. but thanks to roger & all of his help & dedication he brought this coppertone maytag back to life!!! roger: installed an extra 2-speed maytag washer motor he had, worked on the timer motor & replaced the broken timer motor gear, straightened the crooked washbasket top, installed an extra water inlet hose he had, gave me 2 extra hoses for the hot/cold water, brought a new tub light he had, an extra acrylic control knob, went with me to buy the control panel lightbulb, put new belts on & cleaned the pullies, besides sharing in the enthusiasm to get this coppertone maytag running, roger has done so much to help me that i'm sure i'm forgetting something. and also, thank you goes to mark for taking me to buy a replacement one-piece drain hose for the coppertone maytag. i am so greatful for all the help!!! so what i have now is an up & smoothly running maytag CA806. it is in the shaded coppertone brown color. has the aqua blue control panel, acrylic timer knob, tub light, and chrome-strip trimming along the top of the front panel, and oh yeah, it also has the bleach dispenser in the right hand side with the plastic bleach dispenser bottle. again, THANK YOU SO MUCH roger & mark. pictures to follow.... |

An 806 ! I can't wait to see pics.
Of the MTs I've had over the years, I only had one 806 I bought as part of a lot (truck load). It was harvest gold, the cabinet was clean and control panel shiny, and all the lights worked, but, unfortunately, it had leaked oil so bad underneath. It was a mess. I didn't have time then and didn't realize what a great piece I had. It even had an electric bleach dispenser and the tub light. Good for you. I hope your adventures in fixing it up were as much fun as actually using it. |

Looks awesome! Great job on bringing this one back from the verge of being scrapped - nearly all homeowners would have considered the repairs done to that washer to be too much for it to be worth keeping. Well done! Now we need to find one for us in New England! |

thank you all for your comments "C's", Congratulations, Comments, & Compliments...
:o) appnut/bob: yes maytag offered a nice looking 2-tone brown color. like you said, "very rich looking". and roger is so AWESOME!! without roger there is no way that i could even indulge in my washer interests! i asked him the other day, where do you hide them and i touched his back. he looked at me puzzled and i said "your wings". he is an angel. so generous with his time & experience. he is just all around GREAT!! delaneymeegan: awww man! too bad that harvest gold 806 you got had that oil leak!! it sounds like it had all the same "bells & whistles" that this "brownie" has. you know, when i first went to look at this "brownie", i thought, "if it's in really bad shape, maybe i can buy it to have for extra parts. but when me & roger went to go check it out, he said that it looked in pretty good condition & that the washtub was nice & shiney for it's age. so i bought it with the intentions of using it & like i said, thanks to roger for all his help, he got the "brownie" up & running. and i am using it now. and everything seems to be working properly & it's getting my laundry nice & clean. :o) stricklybojack/robert: i'm not saying a word... hee hee hee ;o) washerlover/todd: i am really happy with my find. "brownie" has it's scratches, chips & nicks, but it's from 1972, like roger says, those are just consider scars/marks from "living". i say, as long as it doesn't effect how it works, it's fine with me and i'm also truly blessed to know roger & mark. :o) gansky1: roger said he talked to you on the phone about "brownie" so i knew you knew about it before i posted it on here. hee hee hee... so far so good, everything seems to be working really good on it. roger seems to have a good eye for spotting out good machines just by looking at them :o) washdaddy/rick: (laughing) sorry for the delay in posting the pics. i didn't mean to be a tease. when i finally did get a chance to post the pics, i tried to get the "mandatory" ones i could think of. i did take a couple of before pics, when we first brought ol "brownie" home, but since they were already on my phone, i could figure out how to post them on here?? :o) Jetcone/jon: "Nice find HippeeDoll" are you talking about roger or the "brownie"?? ;o) goatfarmer/kenny: "brownie" is a beauty, isn't she?? i like the color combination of the brown cabinet with the white (washtub & panel light) & turquoise (of the agitator & timer dial settings) with the aqua lower control panel. :o) warmsecondrinse/jim: i like the simpleness of the button selections too. kinda feels like your picking songs on a jukebox. i'm guessing "this was dropped" because it's what they call "progress"??? :o/ toploader55/eddie: what color is your 806? does it have the "sunglow" or "aqua" lower control panel?? :o) Frigilux/eugene: i definitely love the versatility of the 806. the tublight, electronic bleach dispenser, chrome strip, & color are all added "+'s" for me! ;o) Ultramatic/louie: i'm very happy with my latest & last (hopefully) find. :o) 114jwh/james: i like the lighted tub too. it's pretty neat. and yes, thanks to roger, this "brownie" should be in service for many years to come. :o) ken-n-nancy: all the praise for bringing this "brownie" to life definitely goes to roger. he definitely put in a lot of work into this one. i would of been like "a fish wif no water" if i had to do everything roger did, on my own! but this is definitely a "keeper". how's your guys search coming along?? i'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you guys... :o) electronicontrl/michael: "Ahhhh!" was exactly what i was saying when i first seen this "brownie" posted on craigslist. and when i seen that it was still available after about a week or so, i just knew i had to at least go & check it out. and i'm so happy i did!! hm hm hm... :o) ovrphil/phil: better late to the party than never ;o) and yes, i have the gold 806 washer & 808 dryer and now this coppertone 806 washer. but i'm trying to play a missionary here and trying to convert my sister & her fiance' to "vintage". hm hm hm.. they hate their new samsung "HE" toploader for various reasons and when i spotted this coppertone, i brought it up to my sister if she wanted to borrow the gold set (until they buy a new washer & dryer), i could buy the coppertone washer for me. at first she was like "NO" they're old & the gold doesn't match with anything in our house. but after her fiance' got fed up with their samsung making holes in his shirts, he told her, maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all?? while i'm using the "brownie", i have the gold set, waiting for them. so far, they are just going to use the washer. but maybe they will decide they want to use the matching dryer too??? fingers crossed they end up liking the ol' maytags & wanting to keep them!!! ;o) |

TwinTubber/Scott.
Sorry I'm late in replying to your comment. I was in California this passed week, visiting family. Roger is definitely awesome, and I am truly blessed & thankful that he is my friend. As for maytags, they are wonderful washers aren't they? I used to be a "hoover-honey" but now I'm a "maytag-mama"! ;o) I think your maytag "juniors" are too cute! I love them! :o) |
