Mieles certainly depreciate in value on the open market. Sheesh, reminds me of Saab for some reason...oh ya because they crater too! Says the still traumatized (former) owner of 3 Saabs. That's the Model I have.
I believe Miele has not made that model in 3 years as they discontinued it.
Good Luck selling at that price as Brand New I paid $1800. It took me 3 years to finally understand it and thanks to Logixx he sent me the repair manuel which allowed me to program the machine to "Water Plus". Meaning it utilizes maximum fills on certain programs.
I'm sure our Resident Sage Miele Expert Laundress will provide valuable information on all these models and their true values. |

Big Bertha (4840) the model I have does heat water on the Extra White Program. Also it has a Sanitize program as well.
I used the Sanitize Once on a load of whites including socks and the elastic in anything in that load was toast. Clean and White, but Toast.
Sanitize is the Boil Wash. And Max Spin is 1400. But Ken, I can tell you that the Maximum Spin Speed can really wrinkle some fabrics. I have found that 1,000 (High) is sufficient.
All the other programs are good. Custom Program gives you your choice of Wash Temp and Spin Speed. The other Programs are pre set but I think you can change water Temp and Spin Speeds. I pretty much use Extra White and Custom. Express for Bathroom Rugs and Laundry that just needs freshening.
Comforter setting works well.
And the 4840 is 115 volt. |

Are the only machines one sees (may have missed some as didn't click on all links), that are 220v with 9 being the "professional" series and requires two such lines.
There are tons of Miele units on CL. Am so surprised to see so many of the 3000 series with our without matching dryers up for sale. However if you read the reason given it is often because the household needed something larger. Number 8 is 2 w1918 which is a lovely bit of kit. However that series (1900)is close to or fully reached the 20 year mark that Miele promises to stock parts. Thus don't know if they are getting new parts from Germany other than those that are generic to recent offerings. Unless one is willing to take what one gets upon arrival I always warn persons off purchasing Miele W&D's sight unseen and having them shipped long distances. First I would *NEVER* do so without the shipping braces reinstalled on the washer. Most customers do not have them (Miele installation techs still play this odd game of taking the things away), so you'll have to order a new set (they aren't cheap). Then you'll have to hope the seller will install and do that job properly. The 1918 series for some reason comes up with many rear bearing failures. Some say it was because of a defect in the metal used. Others because the high spin speed was used too often especially with unbalanced loads. Whatever reason it is wise to test the machine to see if the bearings/tubs are tight. The 4000 series along with matching dryer tended to be trouble prone. They do say that is why Miele pulled the units after a short life cycle. Miele claims they were "too good" and sold "too cheaply" and thus were taking a loss on each unit sold. Finally there are persons selling Miele washers and dryers with issues. Some state them right out the unit is damaged/does not work but they still want $$$$. |

Miele Washer W1215 - $50 (NEWNAN)- atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/app/52...
My take: $50 might be just a parts /anchor ..caution when seller says it a good deal. Like a Mercedes, there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes(or Miele, possibly?). But I would like a Miele, if money was no object. CL ad: "Miele washer for Parts or repair only 240 Volt Washer. Stainless Steel Washer is in working order except for spin cycle where it bangs during high speed. The drum bearing or cross member is partly broken and needs repair. Other than that all functions work well. If you know the value of these Miele replacement parts ,then you will know this is a good deal " CLICK HERE TO GO TO ovrphil's LINK on Atlanta Craigslist

Some sellers are wanting persons to pay for removing their non-working appliance.
Unless one lived on the same street or block as seller why would I want to give even $50 plus cost of petrol and my time to remove a non-working washer with a major structural failure? Could see if we are talking about a vintage and or hard to find item but a Miele 1200 series is not any such thing. If this was a Kenmore or American brand washer where parts were cheap and easily sourced then the bearing/spider repair *might* prove inexpensive enough to make the thing worth. But Miele parts are dear and can only come from one source. My other worry would be what sort of use this machine got that caused a bearing/spider to fail in < twenty or even ten years. If the guy wants to make money off this unit he should do what others have; break it down for parts and sell those on |

Are about as worthless as a 15 YO Mercedes, they are nicely built appliances but I see no evidence that they are even average in reliability and often worse.
And as mentioned the cost of replacement parts makes them about worthless when broken.
Two weeks ago we junked one of the 2009 27" washers on a pedestal with a broken spider and a 2008 24" Miele condenser dryer that caught fire. |
