yeah, only $1500. That's an old Garrard TT - 2gm weight on your records?

That is one of the most impressive consoles I have ever seen, electronics wise. Looks to have 20-30 watt class amps there. The $2k original price makes sense. I wonder what the original speakers were?

I generally have zero interest in consoles, I'm a component guy and I don't really like old speakers much. I'd almost consider restoring one of these if I could get away with resto-modding some new drivers into it ;)

These DID have Ampex components put into them...

note the separate amps, preanp and tuner, plus high end (for the time) Garrard 88 and Ampex deck. This one is somewhat unusual in that only the most pricey and fairly early versions of Ampex consoles had the 2 monoblock EL-34 amps in them, most had a stereo basic amp with 6973 tubes for push-pull output (a tube developed by RCA and mostly found in jukeboxes). The 402 Pre-amp shown here is a really excellent preamp with a very minimalist 4 tube (3 x 12ax7, 1 x 12au7) circuit, and imo is superior to the now super-pricey and overly complex 10+ tube Scott, Pilot, and Fisher preamps that typically go for $1000 to 2500+ nowadays on eBay. The Ampex preamp can easily have it's button selectors bypassed for use strictly as a phono preamp with the most minimal circuit possible, similar to more recent tube preamp designs. This console is a decent deal at the price!

Very odd those monthly payments were $666;  dude must've sold his soul to afford this....  (ducks and runs)
