I think...

There were only 3 colors during this time;
Wheat = (harvest) gold
Almond = almond
White = white.
I'm not sure but, I don't think avocado or coppertone were offered by this time. The reason I believe this is because when I was looking to order a new windowed dryer door, there were only the 3 colors available.
So by this time the gold color was being called "wheat".

just look so wrong in my eyes...but that isn't a commonly found color, either.

Color availability:
On Laundry major appliances, 1982 was about the last year one could get Avocado and Coffee. As it was, there were only certain models in a manufacturers line up, that this was available on.

Harvest Gold (or Harvest Wheat) lived on a few years more while being offered along side new 80s colors of Toast(a darker beige), Platinum (dove gray), and Black. These only lasted a few years and by the mid 80s it was primarily White and Almond.   I'm not sure all manufacturers did the Platinum, Black, and toast scheme.  GE - Kitchen appliances Yes, laundry NO.  Whirlpool-yes.  Maytag- I don't think so.  Frigidaire (White Westinghouse)-?  Speed Queen-?

For the Kitchen, the Harvest gold, Avocado, and coffee became much more limited as they progressed into the 80s, but one could still special order a Harvest gold refrigerator in 1986.  GE offered two or three middle upper models.  Sears did similar. The Coffee and Avocado was certainly no longer advertised after 1982, which also happened to be the year of an economic recession in the U.S.   Dishwashers with exchangeable color panel packets containing Harvest, Avocado, coffee, toast, and platinum,  were still offered into 1990, or so.

This Maytag Dryer is an early 80s model.

Dryer is an 610 according to my brochure from 1982 and mine is only a 410, darn. But the buttons are off white and my set is a beautiful almond. Who would have thought it would be out of style nearly 35 years later. Never mind, I'll keep them as they work just like new.

That's OK, Tim.

I'll take those nasty 'out-of-date' MTs off your hands.  You shouldn't have to endure the suffering.

Surely you'd be happier with a brand-spankin'-new Samsung ! Right ?
