These look like the last of the solid tub Deep Action, not Jet Cone agitator models. My Aunt Margaret had the dryer with a SQ twitub until she needed surgery. Then, she sold the SQ and bought a Frigidaire Gold Crown because she knew I recomended it. She replaced that in 1998 wit a Maytag pair and redid her kitchen in all GE appliances. Those were sold after her son died and her husband had already passed. She now lives in northern Florida.

No, Phil, one of mine is similar but: a. It came to me broken, and I've been trying to harvest parts out of it. b. It's white c. It's not a programmed machine; I don't like programmed machines, but these are in much better condition.
If I found a pair like these in good condition, I'd use them as daily drivers. IMHO Rapidry Rollermatics were as close as top-loaders came, in the '60's, to today's HE machines: very efficient with water usage and fast spin.

John,
Best of luck getting these. I have rarely seen any OLD or vintage washers and dryers on here honestly. The majority of machines people sell are Whirlpool Kenmore direct drives, followed up by Maytags (pre-Whilpool). I just happened to look at the sale, searching for vintage vacuums. And voila there they were... The sad part about buying for estate sales in general, is that usually (around me anyway here in Michigan) the washers and dryers aren't part of said sale. They are usually being left for the sale of the home to occur, and more times often than not, they are just standard landfill fodder, and nothing as unique and uncommon as these were. PLUS, if your not there jonny-on-the-spot, they could be lost to scrappers, or at best a family of 19 needing a set for their wash that quickly ruins such an old machine. And, RARELY do they offer any type of shipping arrangements either. It's either C.O.D or nothing... Hope to see some beautiful pics of this set soon in your home!!! Chad |

Looks to be one of the very last solid tub rapidry machines. That last picture of the white one is exactly the set I had for many years that Robert & Greg got about 10 or so years ago. Damn good machines! |

I was literally just getting ready to send this message asking if anyone had gone to get them. Too bad. If someone hadn't gone to get them, I was going to call a family member nearby (in Huntsville) and asked them to go see if they could pick them up. Too bad... |

Likely means a member and or at least someone out of the area nabbed the set. Oldskoll am so sad I could die for you...
Find when it comes to estate sales dealing with those running such events can be dicey. When something is truly wanted often best to show up first thing and or make first contact via telephone. I personally start dialing a few minutes before opening time regardless of what am told. Pushy? Perhaps but have found with these things the right hand often does not know what the left is doing. One person says one thing and someone else turns around and does something else. These sellers obviously weren't that "busy" someone else got in a telephone order earlier that day. In the end it comes down to the same thing each time really; by listing things here in the group we are broadcasting it for God and the world to see. There are so many "silent" viewers and or members that you don't know do you? |

How dare you.
Unlike yourself one has been a member of this group for several years, not the weeks you have been around and seen this film before. Far too many times a member has expressed interest in something only to be beaten to the post. In a majority of cases we never find out who or whom purchases these things nor to we hear about them again, ever. No I tell at lie; in few of the more bold faced cheek examples such persons pulled a fast one only to find the item or items did not suit (inoperable, damaged during shipping, paid more than ought....) then they come back here offering the item for sale as if butter wouldn't melt in their mouths. Thinking we've never see the thing before. Worse they want *MORE* than they paid to recover associated costs. Other person's morals aren't my concern, thank goodness. It is a free country and so forth, but that does not make everything right. Furthermore no where in one's post did one say things should be purchase by those personally known. However do have an issue with the increasing numbers who either lurk about for information but do not participate and or treat the place as a source of free repair advice. As merely a paid subscriber can only voice a (reluctant) opinion. But if am going to be attacked perhaps shall join the long (and very sad) list of the old crowd now long absent. |

Glad to know they are safe with an AW member and won't be abused by those who wouldn't recognize their worth! While I'm not the "repair" guy type, I'm sure there are others who can advise of maintenance and repair issues. Best wishes. John - "oldskool" |

Before this escalates to terrorist proportions please widen the lens of your view.
I have purchased something I found on my own in the past without any awareness and prompts from AWO, only to find out a few days later someone else had also spotted them, put them on AWO with the intent of going after them for themselves. I was not wrong in what I did as I had no knowledge of others intentions. I have also been told on the phone I was the proud new owner of 906's in Iowa by one person but when I followed up AS I WAS INSTRUCTED TO by the seller in a couple of days for pick up, I was told they had already been sold to another person and they were being picked up in an hour. The bottom line is the other interested party called and got someone else than I had talked to who had no idea I was told they were mine. The person who purchased them was not my instant enemy, it certainly was not their fault. If any fault was to be placed it was with the estate sale company for poor communication but I lost zero sleep over this, let's not loose perspective that we are talking about stuff, material things, appliances and old ones at that-nothing life or death or matters of the heart here. The other perspective is that treasures found on Ebay, Craigslist, estate sales or wherever are fair game. This site has what, 3000 members. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule that by listing it is the same as marking your territory, things come up people change their minds and all sorts of other things come into play so things go to either the highest bidder or those who get their first. If you were selling something on Ebay would you want 2999 people to stop bidding because one person said they would like to have that? Having said that, I am courteous of others and their wishes as they usually want the said object more than I do. One time I bid up a LK washer and dryer to from like $200 to $3500 as I was sure I would get them if I placed an outrageous max bid. I was bidding against only one other person who was a member of AWO. When I lost the bid I felt awful for loosing and even worse for bidding up the auction as we were the only bidders. He was cool and even shared the owners manuals with me to copy. Great guy, that is how we need to get along in the neighborhood! |

I deleted that post from delaneymeegan. By the way delaneymeegan is Erik who used to be washertalk and a few other usernames in the past. When I ban someone after a year or so I sometimes give them another chance to learn to filter/behave if they rejoin out of the blue. If anyone see's any sort of attack on anyone else out of this member please alert me immediately.
delaneymeegan you can consider this a probationary time. |

Oldskool- Sorry it didn't work out this time. Keep thinking positive. You may not see another set for a while and then, out of no where, one will show up. And within a short period of time, another. And they may not even cost anything. You need to be active and keep your eyes open. Don't give up.
About me and my past here at AW- Yes, I've been here before. Since about October (give or take a month) 2002, when AW was still learning to walk. In fact, in order to get onto the site then, there was a crank starter required on the side of one's monitor.
I've had several screen names over the years because at different times I was very active, and other times, I wan't. Yet I'm still here after all these years. Things have changed. In fact, I legally changed my name in 2006, and if you view some of the old posts, you'd see a different name. My lack of attention to the site was not because of anyone or anything that happened on AW. Like everyone else, I have a personal life and personal issues. In the past, I was VERY rough on the edges in how I said things, and what I said, but I never intended there to be anything bad.
I wish there were a way to meld all the names together.....
I'm certainly AW member material. I have easily collected in excess of 250 major appliances plus at least 100 small appliances in my life. I started repairing/collecting at age 12. I've offered advice on repairing machines when I can. I show pictures of my collecting, and try and be as encouraging to people in their interests in appliances. What can I say, I'm part of a minority group of people who have this particular interest. But frankly, ANYONE who collects otherwise useless, insignificant, or impractical materialistic items; whether it's stamps, baseball caps, old license plates, or whatever.... we're all part of the same group.
I only want things to run smooth. If anyone ever feels as though I've said something insulting about them, please feel free to contact me and I will certainly work to resolve it. As I said the other day in the Imperial forum under Van full of appliances, I want everyone to be content and happy in what they are doing. The world is just better that way.
Erik |

Dear Laundress,
One here does hope that a reconsider of such a position is possible. I look very much forward to reading ALL you put forth,(even tho to a degree I lurk far more that contribute as in ones early years here); and am very much looking forward to more in the future. Your not being here would be a terrible blow to those whom appreciate, and love ones contributions to the fullest. That said. It's unfortunate that things did not work out for you John, and truth be told, the company holding the sale is truly the culprit. One should have had the moral decency to offer back said set to you first, but then again not all businesses subscribe to ethical/moral code. I have been in the vacuum collecting side of our family for 20 years, and can tell you that even there, things aren't always on the up and up in regards to getting what ones chasing after. That said, I learned long ago from a very close friend, and fellow collector tho..."Theres ALWAYS more to be had"... I am glad that Robert moderated and brought things back to order as he usually does with dispatch and aplomb, even when it seems all will implode into smithereens. And, to whomever was able to finally call this set ones own, one hopes that a sharing of pictures and video's will be offered once you have them in your home. The most important of end-all's of course... Chad |
