We've had a few customers this year have that happen with that vintage of kitchenaid dishwasher. The repair is not too bad... If you can find someone to do the service for you.

If you like the way that machine cleans that is.

You can get a Miele that cleans just as well for 899.

Top rack.

If that is a height-adjustable upper rack, salvation is easy. It's a known problem. Whirlpool redesigned the apparatus which attaches the upper rack to thw side rails. Buy the upper rack mounts and all will be well.

Top Rack Problems With A fairly New KA DW

combo52's profile picture

Yes as others mentioned WP-KA has a kit out to repair the wheels and top rack support, they went to SS plates to replace some of the plastic parts that broke too easily.

A Miele DW is not a good solution for rack problems, their top racks are terrible, they are wobbly and cheap feeling and the bottom racks have such large openings that dishes fall through and block the lower arm if you try to wash anything unusual.

1-800-422-1230.  Ask the person answering the phone to connect you to customer complaints/issues.  I spoke with Christina (order id#1527089825 -= that's what you need free of charge)  She looked up the model number we have (KUDS30FXSS2).  There was a technical bulliten issues.  As others have said, there has been a replacement kit with different type of wheels.

After buying replacement parts three times, then I was finally able to have it fixed once and for all.  Did it myself of course.  There is an online video of how to do this procedure and they will be happy to give you the link.  Keep us posted.

Whatever you do, do NOT get rid of this dishwasher! Wheels on racks are too simple a fix to throw out one of the best performing dishwashers made in the past ten years. You won't find a machine that can clean as well as that KitchenAid-Whirlpool does in half the time the new machines now do. With TLC, that machine could last a good 10-15 years from now.

I agree with John, I haven't been impressed with Miele's rack designs. In my opinion, Whirlpool has always had the best racks in regards to being able to pack them full and have spaces for oddly shaped items, and have the entire load free of a single speck.

thanks guys for all your help I contacted kitchenAid today and they're going to have a service technician out Monday no charge to me whatsoever. If it wasn't for all of you great knowledgeable people I would have never known there was a manufacturer's defect with the top racks. I love the performance of this machine. I hope it lasts for many years to come.
