Hello everybody. I was at Lowes yesterday and saw the new GE's. I noticed that it still had the agitator. The other one I saw had the infuser. The one with the infuser had the laundry detergent and fabric softener drawer. I tilted the GE machines and saw the new drive system. Does this washer have a gearbox like the whirlpool vmw or is it just a belt and pulley? I'd like to know. By the way, the new GE's have a lid lock.

different sounds

I noticed that this washer sounds different from their hydrowave. It sounds more like a whirlpool/maytag vmw washer. How is this system different?

there is reduction gearing between the drive pulley and the agitator/agipeller-just like a VMW whirlpool. The compact top load "impeller"(AKA pulsator)hitachi made washers GE sold ~1971-80,also had basicly the same drive setup:split capacitor motor coupled via a belt to reduction gearing driving the impeller(single direction on those old hitachi washers, motor reverses to engage spin)On a hydrowave though, agitator is coupled directly to drive pulley without a reduction gear train-pulley ratio is far higher in a hydrowave:motor pulley is ~1",drive pulley ~11",hydrowave's inverter driven motor can rev to ~10,000 RPM for spin-60 HZ driven motor of VMW(and new GE apparently) limited to~1700 RPM.

cycle programming

I wonder what the agitation profile and spin speed are for the darks cycle.
