Hey folks!
Just bought a new place, and the appliance are TRASH. So I plunked down some benjis for a new washer, dryer and dishwasher.
All GE units. Home Depot by me is having a huge 25% off sale, in addition to GE releasing a rebate program for $100 off qualified units. So that's $300 back to me.
I felt dumb passing it up.
They arrive late next week.

Here are the prizes! Can't wait!

Nice units. Good luck and hoping they are trouble free and everything you want them to be. May the new appliance Gods be in your favor.

Congratulations on all the new appliances! It's always fun to get new ones. Lots of interest in GE here, lately. I have a GE PDT750 dishwasher and like it a lot. It cleans well and is almost silent. I'm not too familiar with their front-loaders, so am looking forward to your performance review when you get it.

Plans Changed :/

johnb300m's profile picture
Well, things had to change for the laundry pair.
I did some more research and re-measuring after the order was placed....and had to change it.
The GE Right Height washers are THIRTY FIVE inches in depth! Wayyyyy too deep for the smaller space I thought I had.
So I had to go back to Home Depot, and swap my order for a Maytag Maxima 5100 set to stack up.
I thought the GEs were nicer....honestly. But these will be good. They very good reviews too.

Does 1 1/2" = wayyyyyy ?

Looks like the GE was 34 2/5" deep, the Maytag 32 15/16". Rounding by me indicates only around 1.5" difference. Just wondered if that small difference was enough to be a concern. I would almost imagine the difference is the door of the GE bulges out, where as the Maytag appears to have a flat front. Anyways, best of luck with the new appliances.

1.5"

johnb300m's profile picture
Well, actually it does and it doesn't. The biggest difference with the Maytags is that they're standard height so I can now stack them in the corner, 90 degrees from the original layout. Otherwise if I had them traditionally set up, side by side, then yes, the Maytags would be too deep as well.
Pics in the coming weeks will make sense.

I really like my new Maytag Maxima 8100 pair and the 5100's have several of the same features. Bet you'll find them a great laundry pair.

Maximas are here!

johnb300m's profile picture
Well! Great news. The Maximas arrived, were set up in the newly renovated utility room, and they've already done their first load of towels, flawlessly.
These are 5100s to be exact.
The towels went through a normal cycle in about 45min. They spun on Extra High, and despite one of the leveling legs not being the right height from the hasty delivery guys...this thing spun quietly and smoothly, as if everything was concretely planted.
I was very impressed.

The gas dryer dried them in under an hour on Heavy Duty.
What was interesting is the lint filter had half the lint from the towels load, as it has from the grueling WPDD in my apartment.

I think these will do very well.

After the holidays! The GE Profile dishwasher report.

Looks impressive!

Was considering the washer but lack of dedicated "Hand Wash" decided against.

Ended up with an E-Lux that doesn't have one either, but that I found out *after* it was delivered and running LOL.
Pays to read about each and every model in detail rather than assuming that since the lower-end had one, this should too.

Maxima Line

Good Going,

I think you will like them fine over time.

Althought I don't LOVE any frontloader, my initial reason for buying was I had no choice.

SC had gone thru a drought of a lengthy 4 years starting around the fall of 2009.
I could no longer wash 1 load with the Kenmores (belt) or Whirlpools (DD); I would give out of water in the middle of the first rinse.
With the Maytag Maxima, I could continue the 2 to 3 loads a day as needed around "here".

Surely the odd one here on the forum, I always set mine for Low Spin.
If I am not around to change the last spin to (during the next to the last rinse), I just let it finish.
Come back and rinse & spin, and the downy, with a very warm rinse.

I have never used the high speed spin more than 5 times in eight years.
Medium is faster that anything around anyway.

My theory on the bearing deal was no way a front load could last with any vibration, as we have found in large harvesting machines...Vibration is the killer of bearings, and fatigue on metal frames, supports, etc.
Any front loader can still spin with too much vibration in my opinion, So I have never left mine unattended for any final spin ever.
I will kill the spin after ramp-up, if it doesn't suit ME...

It'll probably blow up tomorrow, but I don't have a bit of end play in the drum yet.
It's 7 years old now.
I have had to clean the screens about 3 times in the inlet valve, and not one single other thing yet.

It would be interesting to see if you experiment with yours any...
I liked the Whirlpool/Maytags over all others...you can add tons more water without it dumping to drain as in all other models.

I have washed some huge comforters of many different weight fabrics, and added huge amounts of water...Flawless.
The Whirlpool/Maytags are very easy to modify all kinds of things once you know where the EasterEggs are...

Those are some sleek looking machines; I was actually happy that your rendevous ended as it did...I believe things happen for a reason sometimes...I bellieve Lady Luck was watching over you on this one.

Diagnostic Mode

Hey,

I have no idea if the user interface has changed or not, but as with most front loaders, the pushing of the spin button with 3 or 5 seconds betwwen activations enters you into diagnostic mode.
Edited: You are HOLDING the spin button, with 3 to 5..>>>BETWEEN Activations<<
When you get to the CL screen, you can use varous combos of buttons to change parameters.

Within the service lit inside the lower panel, you will find the most common options...but there are many that are not listed.
IE, the most common was to turn off the sounds, chimes...or to turn them on.
Mine was set with no sound when delivered.

You are going to have to get a service manual for that model, Mine was still a book, text based.
I have a friend who tells me now they are on DVD like JD service manuals.

And I can't wait for someone to tell you there is no such thing.
IE, the warm rinse with both valves open is the one that most love to find.

Anyway, Good Luck,
LaVidaBoem

Post Script:
Either email me, or post the model #...I would love to look into this also for that series

Very Good...

Tell us this, not tonight necessarily, but can you enter diagnostics?

If so, great...just press off (Power on Maytags) or cancel to leave without worry of changing anything.

Hope this Helps,

Yes, we have wells on the farm.

Das RIte...

But oh, is it good water...full of Arn...don't have to take no Vitta-Mins...and pay nobody for all the water in world.
This well I speak of...is only 33 feet deep; and that's a little on the steep side around "here"...plenty at 25 feet.

Now, back like always we fill 2 300 gallon water tanks twice a day during spray season.
Full bath every night, shower in the AM, and run all the toploads at one time.

Hope this Helps,
LaVidaBoem

Post Script:
You can pump them down sometimes, flip the breaker, wait 10 minutes, and go again.

A slight annoyance you will have is that if the door is open for too long and the water is to high to it but not to you, it will flash up an F8 E3 error code and beep and go right into drain. I don't really care about this error as each time its happend was when the door was open for a long time.

Another thing is that if you pause the machine in between cycles, theres a 80% chance it WILL mess up what ever is after the portion you paused it, for example on mine, once i hit pause and start without letting the door unlock before the final spin and what resulted after the spin was the door lock, unlocking, locking and unlocking and pausing there.

Other than those 2 bugs, I really like our WPDUET washer. It litterly cleans everything I've thrown at it with no problem. It's now 1 year old and there are no smells, sounds, or issues. You will have a great time with those Maxima's!

For the water level error, are you talking about if the machine does a 'high fill' and then I pause it to add a garment; open the door?
It'll error out?

Post# 855847 , Reply# 20   12/9/2015 at 15:53 (3,059 days old) by washerdude (Canada )

Yep, Once I did that on high level rinse and paused it, the door didn't unlock so i waited, and then it threw the error code and went into drain.

what high level rinse are you talking about? What cycle is that? Thanks

Post# 855853 , Reply# 22   12/9/2015 at 16:40 (3,059 days old) by washerdude (Canada )

All cycles during the second rinse. Once it happend during the wash portion of Heavy Duty for me because of the heavy load and how much water was in it. I think it really depends on the weight of the load and how much water it adds during either the washes or rinses.

Maxima 5000 Profile

Hey All,

Of the vintage of my maxima, the only time it would dump a cycle, or throw an error code, was this if the door was open quite a while during the cycle. (Paused)

If you only pause this model, but not open, such as to soak, or just need to stop it...It never quits.

I have left a soaking load, or partial fill, thinking I would be back to add some garments, Forever.

Most of others I have/have worked on lg, sammie, digidaire (Did you Dare), they would dump, set a code, or just go off...depending on model.

Even within a brand, if you paused too long, it seemed to just stop...some would resume where they left off...others set a code, need to cancel, and start over.

However, I know of only one cycle this Maytag will resume, and also, never let you cancel once started: The tub clean cycle.

You couldn't stop it, nor would power failure reset it...It is going to resume, and finish...period.

I kinda would love to know, or your model, and newer than mine, how much water can you add before it cancels, and drains,...thinking its an overflow condition.

This one is half was up the middle of the glass.

It will drain to the gasket area with or without a cycle selected or the power on to the user interface; ie, such as a leaking water valve.

Also, I can't read the display in your link, pic,...how many spin speeds on the control...and do they still have the max-extract button??

The profile of the max-extract, (probably in book) is to raise the final spin speed to the max advertised for only 20 or so seconds.

Whirlpool did extensive research in the 60's, and proclaimed that at a given spin speed, the last few seconds of a spin only slightly enhanced moisture removal by raising the spin speed further.

IE, let's say 800 rpm spin for duration, with only a bump to 900 rpm for seconds, removed just as much moisture as an entire spin @ 900 rpm.

For What it's Worth,

LaVidaBoem

Mark WP Duet>>

On some of the Whirly/Maytag, the selection of a Rinse & Spin has only slightly higher water level than occurs during any cycle with rinse.

On some models a higher final rinse (slight) is on Whites, Heavy Duty, Delicate etc.

They are supposed to achieve an even higher rinse level when you Rinse & Spin, and select 2 rinses (Extra Rinse)...the last rinse will be almost the water level of the delicate wash, or Hand Wash.

Also, longer.

Hope this Helps,

LaVidaBoem

water levels, Maxima 5100

johnb300m's profile picture
Well, luckily I did a load of sorely needed dress shirts last night while painting the new place.
Normal cycle, light soil. Warm. Medium spin.

(btw, this machine has Low, Medium and Extra High spin speeds).

The wash was about 10min. (water level barely to the drum front seam)
Did a low speed spin before rinsing.
1st, short rinse.
2nd longer rinse, with fabric softener.
- On this 2nd rinse, I did notice slightly more water and splashing, but never did it even seem to reach the door seal level.

3 Speed Maytag...Wow >> JohnB300M

Well, no doubt there has been some changes.

3 spin speeds, hum...

Mine has Five

No spin, (not counting that one), Low, Medium, High, and Extra High, plus max-extract, plus a manual between Low and Medium.

The hidden 5th is one of the easter eggs on mine.

It is also the standard spin, (with any cycle), that ramps up for 45 seconds, then stops, de-wrinkles, and will complete final spin with the  selected spin speed.

Max-extract is a separate function button that as stated above will raise the last 20 seconds or so to around 1100 rpm on the higher setting, and proportionally higher on the High & Medium.

The low-spin that I use between all washes and rinses except the last, is about the speed or maybe slightly higher tham the original Neptune spin after wash/rinse (not final).

Perfect to allow some water removal while trickling in cold water during the spin to rinse the tube, drain, pump, etc.

For johnb300M & Mark WPDuet, If you want to know how to raise the water level, graduated for all cycles, email me...

I have thought about this quite a bit, I don't think I want to post to the whole world about this, but would like to share it between members here.

You can then tell your friends/buddies, members etc.

Hope this Helps,

LaVidaBoem
