frigidaire model WIN timer question

You fixed the spring, that means the timer now advances by itself?

What you say has me scratching my head. I can't see exactly what's your problem. You didn't disconnect any wires on the timer other than those of the timer motor?

I thought this machine used a Kingston timer like my 1967 Custom Deluxe (WCDL) but after seeing the picture of the timer motor and reading some documents, I noticed it doesn't (If I'm not mistaken, only the the BOL model, the WCDN and the infinitely variable speed models use a Kingston timer, I thought it was those with the variable water level that used them but I was wrong).

Did you take any pictures of the timer assembly?

You didn't open the timer?
Does the soak cycle work correctly?
Did you try many positions of the "Fabrics" selector? Agitation is fast on "Regular" and slow on "Delicate"?
If you pull on the timer knob or open the lid (I assume the lid switch works) when it fills, it stops all action immediately (it never keeps filling?).

As you probably noticed from the timer chart, with the Fabrics selector on "Regular" during the first spin, the motor should remain on low speed and only the high speed roller should engage on the next timer increment.

On the final spin, it should start with the motor on low, on the second increment the spin roller should engage and in the third increment, the motor should switch to high speed.

If the timer motor advances correctly, the timer should reverse the motor direction between the pause increments, other than that, I don't think there should be any change of action at the middle of a timer increment.

Checkrate/Likes Hello everyone, my timer stopped advancing on my washer today. It seems as if the motor is ok. The motor is still making noise and also clicks like it should. It seems that all of the gears work correctly as I can turn the gear connected to the motor manually and everything works as far as the machine advancing and dial display turning as it should. Is there a solution for this or is my machine done for?

The timer motor doesn't run all the time...only when the timer tells it to do so. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable members can tell you how to buy a new one...:( OR Fix' it... Checkrate/Likes 1 Are you sure the timer motor is actually turning the gear pinion and not just stalled but still making clicking sounds? The timer motor may be weak.

Checkrate/Likes *alright* Here is a pic of the problem. On the other side of the gear is a little arm type spring that puts tension on the center gear so the motor will advance the whole thing... I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. The spring is broken, so the small gear turns freely and won't advance the timer. Does this make sence? View Full Size

Checkrate/Likes *Got the spring fixed* For now I got it to work, but when I try and calibrate the timer everything seems to work except the overflow rinse at the end of the wash/rinse cycle. When it starts the over flow lamp comes on like it should but only agitates through the first 20 or 30 seconds, then it stops agitating but continues to to over flow until the timer pauses for a spin. When it starts to spin it starts out with the high speed roller engaged, towards the end of the cycle the high speed roller disengages and slows down the spin. It is like the opposite of what it should do for the first spin. The second spin works as it should. Can any of you all give me any advice as to what might be going on. I followed the calibration instructions and did everything the way the book says to do. The only wires I unhooked were the two wires that go to the timer motor. I thought I may have crossed them so I tried switching them out and there is no change..

Checkrate/Likes 3 *I think I figured it out!!* When the machine first stopped working I kept fooling with the timer gears.....when I did that I rotated the timer backwards just a little, by doing so it bent some of the tabs inside the timer box. I have bent them back into the correct position and I am testing it as I type this... so far so good. Hopefully I will be putting this beauty back together tonight!!
