Can any of you KDS series dishwasher experts help me?? I am looking for a bimetal retention assembly ( O.E.M. # B-108676) for my vintage dishwasher. I bought the dishwasher new in 1973, moved it through the 2 houses in my lifetime so far and use it currently as my only dishwasher. All I have had to replace so far is to replace the baskets over time due to corrosion. The unit operates perfectly except that the main door of the detergent dispenser will not snap closed. Upon inspection of the dispenser back I saw that the bimetal door retainer spring is broken. I checked voltage to the retainer assembly at the beginning of the main wash cycle and the assembly is getting voltage at the proper time but will not release the door unless I operate it manually by pushing it to release the door. I assume that the break in the metal is causing an interruption of current flow through the spring, which results in the non operational condition of the bimetal when voltage is supplied.
I have exhausted all sources on the internet to find the part with no success. I have seen some on ebay that have plastic surrounding the bimetal clip but I do not believe that they would mount the same way or be adaptable. My part has the electric circuit connected directly to the bimetal part. The detergent dispenser itself is OEM part #A-108979.
Do any of you experts have the part I have described or know of a source?? Any help will be greatly appreciated. The dishwasher has become a beloved family member and I would hate to part with it at this point in my life.
Thanks in advance for any help.
