Here's two things that I've noticed. The KitchenAid Superba dishwasher is actually a KDS-17A manufactured 1974-76 which added the Energy Saver No Heat Dry black button to the left.

The other one in this picture is a KDS-20C Series. You can tell by the control panel. The 19 Series light on the Dry was a No Heat Dry. The 20 Series brought back the Heat Dry Light and the Sani Cycle. Also, this series has the interchangable panels. And in the Sani Cycle, where it heated to 165F (74C).

On the 19 Series it lacked the Sani Cycle but heated the First Fill into Full Cycle to 150C and did the same thing on the last rinse.he 19 series did not. One other thing the Full Cycles on this dishwasher would heat the first Fill to 150F (66C). And the dishwasher the KDS-19C had no Sani Cycle.

The KDS-19... Although there was not a specific Sani Cycle Selection, The KDS-19 grouped together Soak and Scrub, Normal Wash, Heavy Wash and Light Wash as "Sani Cycles" as this group of cycles Preheated the First PreWash Wash to 150 and the Final Rinse to 150. This was KitchenAid's First series of "Energy Savers" in 1981. I bought one of these and they cleaned beautifully but I was horrified at the elimination of the Constant Rinse. In my theory they cleaned well because of the Static Water heating which "Steamed" the wares in the machine. Drying was Sketchy at best on any cycle selection except the Soak and Scrub. The drying was very good on this selection reason being you had a total of 3 periods of water heating on the first prewash and the last heating for the final rinse. Due to the Insulation and all the heat retained bu the Dishes, Porcelain Wash Chamber etc. this made the No Heat Dry perform it's best. Plus on all cycles the element stayed on to maintain or heat the circulating water during the cycles of Sani selection.
