As most of you know I collect all kinds of small appliances, I love electric frypans, both to use and collect, my experience has been most of them work pretty well, especially Sunbeams , Mirro Matics and Prestos, my question is, did any of the GEs with the short small removable control ever work properly, or is there just something inherently wrong in these controls as they age, I have over 10 of these controls, 2 are brand new, and none are usable, set on warm you get 350 to 400 plus,I have never had this problem with any other pan, the round GEs with the control built into the handle work perfectly, I love the looks of the removable control used on the square pans, but would love to find one that works right...

I grew up using moms round GE with the dial on the end of the handle, not immersible.. That thing lasted forever.. We bought a square domed lid GE with the removable probe sometime in the 80's and never had a problem with it but it's been sitting unused now for probably 15 years. I don't even know where it is at the moment.. somewhere in a pile behind a pile.

Last time I used an electric pan was probably about a year ago.. the really nice round Webalco oil filled one.   I've also got a Hoover Tri Pan fry pan I've never used because I don't want to get it soiled  HA.

I think

They changed to a more conventional control around 1970, I have a 70s model GE that is great.
