Yep, everything related to American cars, trucks, buses, motorhomes, trailers, accessories, and service stations from a bygone era. So slide into the drivers seat, buckle-up, adjust the mirrors, slip a record into the Highway-Hi-Fi and finally press D on the TorqueFlite. You're cruising now baby...enjoy the ride!

Thanks Louis.

Everytime I look at these cars especially from 1957 through 1972 they just bring tears to my eyes.  The design/styles and quality just slay me.  Wow. Do I miss those.

Ah yes,

nostalgia at it's best Louie! Lee Iacoca is posed with his wife Mary in his book "Talking Straight" with a '72 LTD. My aunts used to drive those. Nice rides for sure.
The fox platform Mustang is lacking in styling from the earlier ones, but many liked them because they were larger than the Pinto based Mustang II.
Many cars became boxy in the early 80's. Yuck. No style.

Fancy cars

The '64 Mercury interior reminds me of the one in the '64 Ford Galaxie 500 my former neighbor Hazel L. had. Hers was white on the inside and out.

My dad's Uncle Fred had a '72 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, but his was white with a black vinyl roof, and black interior. He loaned it to my mom for our trip out west in the Summer of '72. We had a (fortunately minor) accident on I-10 near Desert Center, CA when someone cut in front of us, causing us to run off the road and spin out in the median. We hit a reflector post, which dented the hood and put a mark on the bumper's rubber strip. When the car stopped, the back end was hanging over a 3' deep culvert, with the rear tires less than a foot from it. Talk about a scary ride!

I had a 1971 Cadillac Coupe DeVille It was a very pale tan, with brown vinyl top. Seats were upholstered in a beautiful gold brocade. I sold it when my dad gave me his '79 Coupe DeVille.

I never saw

a "two passenger" Gremlin. I didn't even know there were any. I do remember the "free air" on a Gremlin sales campaign about 1975. Got my neighbor to buy one.
Then I bought it from him in 1977. Junk.
To think the guy who designed it use to design Packards. I was still in high school, but the best selling car was the Olds Cutlass. Middle class peak.
I got mine slightly used in 1980. Lasted 12 years, (9 for me) salty road winters and all.

Our family doctor, the doctor that delivered me had a Chrysler Imperial just exactly like the 55' in #66., same color everything. He always drove an Imperial, got a new one every other year. And his wife always drove a Chrysler station wagon. Those mid 50's Chrysler's were very nice cars, powerful and comfortable.

I won't lie; I love my new Ford Fusion---the safety and creature-comfort features, the way it handles, the steering feel...but it can't compete with the '56 Imperial for style. Absolutely gorgeous!

As always, thanks for all the time you spend scanning these great ads to share with us, Louie.

Love this pics.. for me there was a long period between 77 and the early 90s but mainly the 80's where there just weren't that many cars that appealed to me.

Got that rigth Petek

At least on the exterior styling. Plush interiors continued though on top line models like Mercury.
I guess $1,500 was a lot of money in 1941 to shell out for a car, yet that Packard seems worth it, and Henry B.Joy did alright by investing in and moving Packard from Warren Ohio to Detroit. That Super 8 160 is some bathtub sedan.

"corinthian leather"

but it was no Cordoba by far.
Also unfortunate, when Matilda Dodge passed away, her Grosse Pointe mansion was raised and subdivided into four new lots.
Only the other Dodge brothers estate "Meadowbrook" survives. It is where the Concourse De Elegance cars show is held.

"correction"

I meant Anna Thompson Dodge's mansion.

Some of those really old car brands are ones I've never heard of. For example, the Elmore, which was made in Clyde, OH - the home of Whirlpool's washer factory. There's also a town by the name of Elmore not far from Clyde. Another was the Waverly, made in Indianapolis.

The '60 Dodge looks a lot like the car the Johnston's (former neighbors) had. Theirs was a 4-dr. Dart. I think it was the same shade of green as the one in the ad.

Seeing the ad for the 1905 Oldsmobile and the list below of the models offered reminded me of one time around 1985 when my parents decided to take a look at a 1983 Chevy Malibu that was for sale from a used car guy they had previously done business with. My parents, myself and my grandmother, who was born in 1888, and lived with us at that time went to take a look at the Chevy. My grandmother stayed in the car while my parents and I looked the Chevy over. At one point I walked over to our car and my grandmother asked me if the car was a runabout or did it have a backseat? I've never forgotten that.

She passed in 1988 five months shy of 100. I've often thought of the changes she saw in her life. She went from horse and buggy to automobiles to seeing a man set foot on the moon. She of course grew up without inside plumbing or electric. She used to tell of growing up on the farm. They had a washing machine that could be hooked up to a treadmill. They powered it with one of the dogs on the farm. If they didn't tie the dog up Sunday night he wouldn't be found on Monday morning. He wasn't stupid! She was third youngest of 12. She would also tell of it being her job to make the bread. But she was so young when given the job she had to put the mixing bowl on a kitchen chair to be able to reach it. If someone made a child that age do a job like that today they'd probably be charged with child abuse!

My Aunt and Uncle had a 71 Mercury Marquis, 2 dr HT, Butternut Yellow with a Tobacco Brown vinyl roof, and interior the same brown. This car rode like a luxury car, even though it was what was considered a mid- priced brand. They always drove a Mercury, this was one of the most beautiful they ever owned.

70's

full size Fords and Mercury's used the identical frame architecture as Lincolns.
Different wheel base, mounting bushings, and sound absorption material according to model line and price points. Fords and Mercury's were either final assembled in St Louis, Chicago, Lorain, Atlanta, or Oakville Ontario, and St Thomas post Pinto production.
Lincolns were all assembled in Wixom Michigan back then along with Thunderbirds.
Even the lowest price Ford Custom 500's and Galaxies had smooth rides.
Lots of weighty heft, sprung, and un sprung weight as well. Not much for MPG, or good handling, but that boulevard ride was great.
