I don't think I've ever seen a Whirlpool dryer of this vintage with such a spartan panel.

And what's funny is that when this dryer was brand new, it probably sold for about the same price on sale!

This and the one knob-wonder washers were the pair advertised by the fast-talking appliance stores as like "get a NEW washer and dryer this week end only $299 complete !"

Then when you get to the store they tell you "these were really only intended for car washes to dry the rags. One really needs to spend at least $600 for a nice 2 speed washer with 3 water levels and a three temperature dryer with automatic control"

....."This weekend ONLY", "Easy financing", "Free delivery" (within 3 miles), "connections, installations, removal of old machines, warranties, colors, non-floor models all EXTRA charge".

...Those were the days.laughing

It's probably a non coin-op commercial model.

It reminds me of the "Capri" models Sears treated like  step kids.

Actually, it reminds me of a movie prop with nothing but an empty shell inside. :-)

""Capri" models "

Yep, the entry level cheapos, Sears style.

They could advertise and snag customers, in hopes of upping the transaction "for only $11 more per month....."

What is really funny to me, is that I remember when Sears used to do big full page ads in the newspaper of a 1 cycle, 1 speed washer for $99 and dryer for $68 back in the late 60's-early 70's. Plenty funny.

We had two competing discount appliance stores in the DC area in the late 70s, Luskins and George's. This would have been the type machine offered in the ads to get people in, but they actually would sell these things, too. A friend bought a $99 new Gibson dryer there, one cycle and one temp.

I've seen several of these:

Washers and dryers in restaurants. They worked great for washing towels and aprons.

I remember those ads Bruce. But they were never in stock nor could you get them. This pretty one right here with extra bells and whistles is only practically nothing a month more on your Sears charge.

Capri/Galaxy

I had a "Galaxy" model Kenmore dryer, high heat only, no air fluff, no bells or whistles, and while it bored me to tears and I sold it after 2 years, it worked perfectly well. Set the dial to NORMAL DRYNESS and it performed perfectly and reliably.

Flashback -- Whirlpool Waher/Dryer B.O.L. Sparatan-Set:

daveamkrayoguy's profile picture

I have seen a folded cardboard box for a Whirlpool washer at my cousin's place in Maine once, along the basement stairwell, at the house they'd lived in before they got the one they live in now--which was much more fun...!

I believe it was for a Whirlpool washer though I don't think I've ever seen the washer--or even a dryer at that place...

Before that, they'd lived at some walk-up apartment (and the second one I remember; the first had a gas stove my cousin was trying to keep my very little 'year-old-hands off of the knobs of--so that was when they were last in Michigan) when they'd just moved to that state, so I remember how the range there was electric... And maybe they had that washer & dryer there...

They were probably a short jaunt from a laundry mat, until they moved to the house they live at now, after-which my cousin had grown & moved out (to Cincinatti, Ohio) so just my aunt & uncle still live there...

But if I had ever seen any Whirlpool washer & dryer set, prior to their Amana W&D set they'd gotten afterwards, I could vividly remember it looking like that...
