Hello everybody. What is the difference between the Whirlpool and the Maytag Centennial clone? I noticed that Maytag has the label "Commercial Technology." I noticed the maytag centennial uses corrosion resistant springs and synthetic oil, according to Maytag's website. Does the Whirlpool use the same oil or not?

design

I noticed that they look the same. Why? The only difference I see is the nameplate.

They are exactly the same

I'm sure the ''corrosion resistant springs'' are just a marketing ploy. Sorry if I offend anyone but I feel the need to speak my mind here. It is a total ripoff to buy a Maytag made after 2006 if you ask me. Even if the quality was not great, Whirlpool could have improved the designs or came up with new ones. Whirlpool should have done better with Maytag. Instead all they did was close all of Maytag's washer/dryer manufacturing facilities and put thousands of people in small towns across America out of jobs and then go on about American pride in their Maytag commercials. That is exactly why I will never buy anything Whirlpool. It's such a lie to put the Maytag name on a Whirlpool appliance, with not one thing different mechanically from the Whirlpool models. The lowest form of advertising/corporate trickery. ''Maytag'' commercial technology my a**!

I don't blame you.

I don't blame you. It's just as I suspected. Only other difference is the cosmetic design or lack there of. I don't need to go off topic, but I believe the new GE's use oil filled gearboxes. They sound similar to the whirlpool/maytag clones.

no gearbox, no oil

The new GE washer platform has no transmission, no gearbox, and no oil.
It is a direct drive motor and pulley system, with a mode switching lock.

nois during agitation

Thanks for clearing that up. I was dumbfounded as to why the new GE' have that gear whirring sound. I guess the GE washers up until 201 had oil filled gearboxes. I guess that's why the GE's had that chunka chunka sound.

The 'gear whirring' is really electrical resistance noise from the powerful EMF torque in the motor itself, as it rotates back and forth.
