On Craigslist for several days and ebay too. No takers. As a young person, I always envied those who could afford a Barzilay cabinet. This one is very nice. I especially like the wood speaker grills. JBL speakers and Dual turntable included. Add a nice used receiver and you would really have something special. Speakers and turntable are probably worth the $400 asking price. A 30 minute drive away. What do you think"

that seems like a screaming deal to me... gorgeous Barzilay woodowrk, JBL DB130 or 150 4c with tweeter in tuned port enclosure, nice cabinet styling in excellent condition, 1019 Dual is a classic changer, wonder what the amp or receiver was? ... I'd have bought this already if in my neighborhood! The cabinets are worth more than the asking. I had a Barzilay set in blonde wood with Romanesque styling that I couldn't stand but beautifully made, I bought for the University Triaxials and sold the woodwork on. Go for it!

not as pretty imo, with DB130s, 075 tweeters (not the same as the CL ones), and crossovers for $2000! No equipment cab included!

Hope you can get that CL one!!

I vote with Roger and Ralph. I've done woodworking and have an appreciation for many different woods - that Barzilay cabinet is very nice. It's your call, of course - but it's priced to sell.

Just for fun - here's one in Asheville, for comparison(at $120)

Barzilay set in Asheville...

firedome's profile picture
I've seen that one, my brother lives there. Look at that home brew single-ended amp on top with what looks like 211 or 845 transmitting tubes, not included in the sale, no doubt... wow that is one heck of a power supply with all those interstage transformers and oil caps! The Barzilay cabinet is not as pretty as the one in CA. Let us know if you snag it Joe!

firedome - I agree, Roger. That one in Asheville isn't close to the beauty of the other and those speakers seal the decision for "yay". (vs. nay).

Well...

...there they are, in the back of my pickup tucked away in the garage. They're going to stay there for awhile until I figure out where to put them. It was some trip over dirt and sand roads through the yuccas to where the guy lived. Street names on 2 X 4's and house numbers painted on rocks. He had lowered the price to $350. He was a big guy and loaded it for me, picking up the speaker cabinets like they were a Proctor Silex 2-slice toaster. I think he just felt sorry for an old man. The front of the cabinet slides open and has shelves and record storage. I have a very nice Pioneer 6-disc CD player that will fit perfectly. Once again. thanks for all the expert advice.

I really like the wood grills. These is no damage :-)

Excellent! Those speaker grills are very beautiful looking. While they're in storage - don't forget to come back when you pull them out and give us a tour...or facsimile.

(he worked in the postal parcel warehouse or FedEx?) :-)

845 transmitting tubes used as modulators in our older CEMCO 420A transmitters.I used to have a pair of Altec Lansing 283 amps-beleive that was the type# these amps came from a drive in theater near Wash DC-used a pair of 845 tubes-that was for the car speakers on the poles in the theaters drive in lot.

Even with my sciatica (old age is not being kind to me) I managed to unload everything off of my truck and into the the house by myself. This was a real accomplishment since at times I find it difficult to walk more than a few feet. I've never regretted spending $99 for a hydraulic lift table/cart. It comes in handy.

There's all kinds of fun literature inside. I am also happy to see that a very nice JVC RX-DP10VBK TOL receiver that I had tucked away in a closet will actually fit in the space next to the turntable. Since it weighs 49 lbs I'll have to make sure it's properly supported.  This is going to be a fun and easy project but I still don't know where it's going. Even with my eclectic home, it's looks very out of place sitting in my kitchen.

Wow!

firedome's profile picture
kudos for making a great find and buy!! I LOVE those speaker cabinets, very similar to the Altec Valencias we had, but the grille designs of these are much prettier! If you ever decide to part with the speakers/cabinet please let me know, I have a guy whose brought me cars from CA that could haul them.

See that JBL Paragon on the top center brochure? Those things can go upwards of $10,000 these days!!

It looks like the removed electronics may have been HH Scott units, can't read the model # due to glare - they made some really wonderful stuff!

Scott it is

Good eye Roger - actually it's very readable - 2 year guarantee has the Scott name above it. It would have been nice to see those Scott components, as they did make some nice stereo equipment.

Congrats on the neat find! I hope that everything cleans up well and works as it should.

Whenever I see a D130/140 I always think of this image. Pretty sure humans didn't exist on the otherside of that wall ;)

Congratulations on a great acquisition. So glad you made the decision to go for it! We only live once, you've got to treat yourself sometimes.
