With all the talk about Americans Downsizing

Moving into and or preferring smaller living quarters those nice matching GE kitchens would probably sell well today. Far more interesting than what most landlords/developers put into new rentals or entry level co-ops/condos.

Very efficient use of space and seem rather durable as well. Wonder if the kitchen originally had a matching fridge.

A year or 1.5 years ago, GE announced a full functioning kitchen and laundry with full sized appliances with designs to fit in small urban spaces efficiently. Made me think of The Wonder Kitchens.  What's old is new again again.

General Electric "Wonder Kitchens", had no idea that is what the things were called.

Now that one does must go loosen my stays!

To be fair

Seller is accepting offers....

Many get turned off by the opening bid if too high and ignore that part about "Make Offer".

IIRC a few members have nabbed items below to well of the opening bid by making offers.

While it is true some sellers are delusional and won't give up off anything. Others are more practical and just want the thing gone and perhaps knowing it will be appreciated is more than enough.

while appearing to be in nice shape...

it's just GE's BOL wall oven and separate cooktop of the time, w/ matching cabs, no d/w or fridge. Nothing all that special, except for the color, really, imo.

I don't know what they think they have to be asking such a price. As stated above, it's just a GE oven and cooktop, oven cabinet, range base cabinet, two 3" fillers, and a wall cabinet.

It's not a "Wonder Kitchen" unless it has the one piece stainless steel top containing the sink and cooktop unit.

Can't be silent

I have become so annoyed with un-learned sellers (probably younger and just can't relate to earlier times) who incorrectly date and label appliances they're selling.  In the case of this Ebay listing, the seller originally claimed this group was "robins egg blue", which told me that he/she didn't have a clue about the color.  So I emailed him/her and simply told same that unless the appliances or the cabinets had been repainted, they were turquoise green, one of GE's mix-n-match colors introduced in 1955.  I have since received a nice thank-you email from her, and note that she has since corrected the color in her listing.  Ta-da!

Similarly, just this morning I found a 40" GE range on Ebay that was incorrectly identified as a 1950's model and that the color was "rust red".  Hummmpff.  I sent that seller an email explaining that the range was "coppertone" (a color GE introduced in late 1962 - hint - your date is wrong) and based on the photograph that they were providing of the identification plate the model number was J466 and the range was likely produced in 1965 (give or take a year).  We will see if any of that information makes it into the listing.

Easy enough to tell someone that they're incorrect without insulting them.

To be fair, this is the early version of the wall oven with the chrome plated cast knobs, infill paint and gold tone clock. 9 times out of 10 it's the cost reduced version that pops up and really looks plain-jane in person.

GEE WHIZ! It's turquoise from the 50s. It's "Eamsish", a term used a lot on eBay. It must be worth a lot of money.

Cheap electricity from the Columbia River led to lots of electric appliances in the Pacific Northwest. In the early 80s, congress would not even allow power rates to be raised enough to pay the interest on the loans to build the dams contributing to deficits in Reagan's administration.

Unfortunately black was not one of the GE "Mix or Match" colour palette... This must have been repainted at some point, alas.

Color wise it was available in cadet blue... a dark navy.
And colors are not captured true on a lot of computers or cameras.

Think we should be understanding of the fact

launderess's profile picture
Average persons including eBay or CL sellers aren't up to all the knowledge of vintage appliances many of us have acquired.

If everyone knew what they had and priced accordingly the world of collecting on many fronts would grind to a halt. I personally have benefitted a few times over the years from sellers misidentification of an item. This includes a NOS Sunbeam C-50 that went for small money, and of course the OKO/AEG set as well.

Personally have given up on sending well intentioned "corrections" to eBay and other online sellers. While some are thankful for the information and assistance, others basically tell you to sling your hook and mind your own business.
