I drove 120 miles round trip to pick up this Maytag Neptune MDE5500AYW dryer from the owner whose matching Neptune washer had terminal failure recently who ended up buying a matching Whirlpool set.

It is an interesting pair for my 1987 Maytag A512 washer.

You will LOVE your new "Neppie"! I've got a mechanical dial model sitting next to my 1993 Maytag LAT 7793, both in almond.

Fantastic pair of machines, for sure!

One thing I really like about this dryer is the cool down cycle during the last 5 minutes of drying time, I don't think any of my previous dryers had this feature.

An interesting set of circumstances led me to a Craigslist seller that was offering a matching Neptune MAH5500BWW for $50 this past weekend.

When I asked him over email if there was anything wrong with it, he replied that there wasn't and it that it was an extra washer that he wasn't using.

For $50, it was worth a look.

When I got there, he told me that he had just moved into the house and the previous occupants had left their Neptune set. He had his own washer/dryer set already so he was selling the Neptunes. I paid the man his $50 and brought the washer home.

The door seal was intact but completely covered in mildew. I bought a new seal which was delivered and installed this morning.

My first ever matching set!

Congratulations on your completing your Neptune set! They look very sharp together. Is this your first front-loader? I've been a big fan of the format since 1987.

Our member Yogitunes (Martin) is a front-loading Neptune enthusiast. You can see part of his collection of them in the Super (Yellow) Forum in Thread #65746 called Laundry: How Many Loads Per Week In Your Household. Scroll way down to Reply #54 to see the photo he posted.

yeah, I have to chime in.....I find the humor as in its only starts as 'one set'....then you get hooked, and have to get a 'fleet' of them.....

I would say you caught the 'WAVE'......enjoy!

From 2004-2015, I had two Electrolux-built FLs (the first one was a Frigidaire, the 2nd one was a Kenmore).

Parts from the first unit kept the 2nd unit going until this past January when the spider bracket failed and I opted to wash my hands clean of Frigemores altogether.

I've seen Martin's Neptune collection, it's very niiice.

My laundry area can realistically only fit one washer and dryer, though I should probably find space for my Maytag A712 (which began life as an A512).

Congrats.  Come to think of it, in 65 years of laundry I have never had a matched pair.
