Hi,
I'm new to the forum but have lurked for a while. My wife and I live in a newer townhome and are looking to get a washer and dryer. We were going to buy new speedqueens but then decided that it would be a hassle to lug those heavy machines up 3 stories, and then down again when we move.

So we are looking for a cheap and dependable washer and dryer. We went to our local used appliance store and checked out what they had and nothing really sparked our fancy but I have heard good things about dependable care maytags. There is one at the store that comes with a none matching dryer for $375. They also include a 5 month warranty.

We are wondering if these are a decent deal for the money, and will they last us at least another year, since thats all we care about because we will probably move then. Included a picture of the controls of both washer and dryer. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!
Paul

Assuming these machines haven't been abused they should definitely take care of you guys. Even if they were abused you likely would not have any problems. Dependable care machines are tanks and work very well.

My parents have that washer and the dryer is "kinda" a match. The control panel will have fonts like the washer if it was an exact match.

The washer is highly sought after as back in 2007 they were discontinued. The design is very ancient and proven. If used on municiple water it will probably outlast anything built today.

My mother still has my old one. I bought it in 1993, and it still works like it did the day it was installed. It had one warranty repair on the timer, and that's it.

Those should work fine:

Provided they are not beat up mechanically. Another solid option would be a low miles Whirlpool/Kenmore Direct Drive set.

That is the same "LAT"  model I have.  It is one of the best washers I have ever had.  I wish you the best of luck with yours.

You did good at WAY less than a new set of speed queens. These will more than likely outlast new speed queens anyway. They are probably significantly heavier in weight though.

Here they are all setup! It wasn't too bad getting them into place and the guy that delivered and helped install it is the owner of business I bought them from.

He said I had a good eye and that these machines were the ones that made maytag famous for their durability. We had a nice chat and as he was leaving he said that even though they have a 5 month warranty on them, if they have any problems past then, go ahead and give him a call and he would still take care of it since he tries hard to take care of his customers. he then said he would be surprised if they do have any problems for along time because they are so bullet proof.

Thanks again guys for your help!

Very nice looking set.  You may have already reversed the hinges on your dryer door, so they are hinged on the left side.  Reversing the door is easy,  the dryer with the angled top styling is very user friendly. Best of luck with them.  A

those look

like the final console design for the dependable care line before Maytag closed up shop.
Truly missed.
