I did not want to hijack the thread on the stacked Duets from Germany so I thought I would add my tale of woe to the forum.

We have a WFW9150 series Duet which is just over 6 years old and it has given us good service for all intents and purposes but now it is failing to complete cycles on a random basis and returns an error code(just yesterday) of 9-1. Since there is no display we have to decipher it according to the tech sheet which for some unknown reason, I have either lost or misplaced. I have a set that another member sent me which is basically close but I would like to be sure.
In the past, it gave an 8-1 code which is a long drain period and it has often left the water in the tub and clothes soaking wet.

Yesterday it did it again and the drain pump was very hot. I pulled the plug to clear the code and by then I assume it cooled down enough and started draining again.
I might add that the pump is making more noise and groans as it drains than it ever did so I am thinking the coupling or impeller shaft is not running true anymore, though an inspection of the pump did not reveal any abnormal wear or binding.
Did a small load wash to rinse them and it was fine and then another wash with shirts on delicate and it was fine. My wife now uses "SILK" exclusively because that seems to be the only cycle it works thru fine. The others will also randomly error out as well but not "SILK".

Does anyone have the tech sheets or error codes for this model? And is the drain pump at its life's end?

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

According to the tech sheet, F9E1 is long drain. It does sound like the pump is bad.

F8E1 is no water detected entering machine, or pressure switch not tripped.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, John

That's what I thought too. I have seen similar design pumps that will run for a bit then freak out and fail and these were new ones and greater horsepower.
Time to find a pump on Fleabay or use one of the ones I have and make or make it work!

Steve let me see if I have a manual for your machine and if I have one, I will email it to you.

Sounds like you need a new drain pump.. Last year or so I picked up a duet sport *cheap* that was giving error codes and sometimes not draining- the pump ran on my first test, but VERY loud, and when washing an actual load of laundry, the pump seized up on the first rinse, overheated to the point of starting to smoke, and threw an error code. New pump solved the problem. I think it was $30 on Ebay, and it's running a load right now. No problems since.

On one of my duets I replaced the pump with a GE version.  The WP pump was selling for ~$50 the same GE version was $19 if I recall.  It was physically identical too.

Looking for a bargain...

Matt,

If I can get the same pump from GE at that price I would definitley want to save the extra bucks.
Would you have the part number for it?
Thanks
Steve

Sorry..

I have no idea at this point.  If you do a search you might come across a post by me some 5 years ago on the topic.  I think I posted about it, not sure.

FOUND IT!

Matt,
A co-worker happens to have a FL GE washer and I found the pump you mentioned with his model number but I actually found a new WP pump on Ebay for less than any of the GE units, most of which were used.
Hope to get it by the weekend and get it installed as soon as it comes in.

Thanks again for your help.

Good news to report!

Couldn't wait to get the new pump and installed it as soon as it came in. Did not bother removing the drain trap just swapped out the motors and the machine is as good as new! Took all of about 5 or 6 minutes to do. The bottom panel was already off so it went fast!

It has been about 2 weeks and after nearly 2 dozen washes on various cycles, there have been no errors and stopping like before. I also have much less water and suds working their way up from the boot and on to the door glass. I think the old pump was shutting down even when it was spinning.

And no more moaning and groaning from the old pump either.

What I thought was unusual, and you guys can tell me what is normal, but the old pump had a large quantity of water inside the motor housing. If you look closely at the pics attached, you will see a shadow inside the housing. That is the water.

But thanks to everyone for the advice. We can now run cycles without having to wonder if the washer will shut down at any random point in the cycle.

motor cooling jacket

normal for water to be in that portion of motor-that is kind of a water cooling jacket it seems.

Also lubrication for the rotor.

Not correct. The water pumps should be completely dry. Water in the jacket is an indication that the seal behind the impeller is bad. I have seen those full of water all the time, and still function. It's only a matter of time before it corrodes itself to death.
