Got a ridiculously cheap offer of a Miele dishwasher. Seller mentions however, the softener needs to be replaced and claims he doesn't know why.
Couldn't squeeze a piece of information whatsoever.
Do you think it's worth it?
Never heard of a damaged softener unit other than it bursting into pieces or being filled with detergent.

How much is ridiculously cheap?

And the cosmetic condition?

Call Miele and ask what the part costs. If they are willing to sell it to you that is. When a Miele technician has to do the job it might be very costly. On the other hand perhaps it's just a minor thing like a light that doesn't turn off when the salt container is filled. Question the woman why the softener needs to be replaced. It's a tricky situation!

That's the problem - if it's something minor it would be too good to pass.
Gentlemen, we're speaking One Hundred Thirty American Dollars.
Speaking of a Miele, feels like someone forgot about a zero.

Sent them an e-mail, thank you! Problem is there's no car at my disposal, and a cab from NJ would be more than the DW itself lol
The broken one apparently stopped working and the tech said it needs a new softener.
I'm wildly assuming there's a leak that tripped the floater, but it seems a bit risky.
Leak is probably possible to patch up, but depends where and why; decisions decisions

rent a truck!

That Rahway Miele looks good. how about renting a truck at home depot or maybe a decent hatchback or Minivan for a day and drive over to NJ and get it. Sounds a lot more promising than the one with the broken softener. Besides, you won't ever need the softener in NYC as the water is naturally soft!

That $45 dishwasher

looks to be a true bargain.

$130USD? Forget it. Especially for something broken.

I thought about a truck when I saw it too, but the lowest quote was over $100.
Uber wanted somewhere between $150 and $200.
One of those moments when you feel like going to craigslist and getting a used car just to get to NJ LOL

They haven't replied yet though, we'll see what happens.
@richnz, $130 for a Miele isn't bad at all, if it's an easy fix. Even used ones seen on cglist and ebay start around $300.

The lovely people from NJ never bothered to reply.
Since the broken-softener-Miele was an auction, and nobody bid/used the buy-it-now, I got it for $20.
The softener had shuttered into little bits and pieces. According to Google, there was plumbing work done and nobody thought about bleeding faucets - an air bubble is being blamed.
I ordered a softener off eBay and we'll see how it works!
The machine is in absolute pristine condition and the wait is starting to kill me!

Btw, had a conversation with the Husband about the upgrade. He claims the grit on glasses from current Frigidaire is nothing that bothers him, and I'm being a pain-in-the-arse to even notice it. *LOL*
