On the curb in New Jersey, scrappers surely will get to it but perhaps worth a shot.

Sadly Seller Has Only The CL Advert

System (meaning email) for contact information.

That part of the New Jersey shore isn't exactly Times Square on Christmas Eve, but scrappers or anyone else on the prowl might just come upon it.

This is interesting

Someone in Ocean City was *GIVING* away a very nice Maytag wringer. Thing was gorgeous and even included the original plastic cover that it was stored under.

Of course by the time one saw the CL listing it was gone. Well it was four days later but guess someone jumped on it ASAP. In particular there is someone with *Wanted Maytag Wringer* ads for CL in NY, NJ, and PA.

Am guessing since the person in my OP just put the thing out for whomever to collect they didn't want to be bothered with calls/emails and or other forms of contact.

So often that is the case with craigslist 'curb alert' ads...  The person who wants to get rid of the item simply doesn't want the potential hassles of "Oh, I can't get there now, but can you hold it until next November?".

It's bad enough trying to sell stuff these days with the 'no shows' that I really do understand why a curb alert ad poster would not want to include contact data.

On a happier note, there are no known sex offenders in the vicinity of where the washer was sighted...

Sorry if this turns into a CraigsList rant....

revvinkevin's profile picture

Unlike the "majority" of Craigs List posters, I do put contact info so I know when (if) someone is coming to pick it up and can delete the ad as soon as it's been picked up.

It really does piss me off when someone calls or texts, asking for my address, then never shows up!   I tried repeatedly to GIVE away a coin-op GE filter flo I picked up for free, then stripped a couple parts off it.   3 people contacted me saying "Oh yeah I'll be there in 2 hours" or "At 3 pm"... but then don't show.

I even tried a "curb alert" listing the address and saying "come get it".. but nothing.   Even had it on the curb for trash day and normally that's a for sure thing, but nope.   It's been sitting here over a month now.

Kevin

I do respect them for deleting the posting in a timely manner, I can't stand getting excited for something that was gone two weeks ago just because the poster is lazy, It borders on needless taunting. Let's just hope this ended up at a good home and didn't find a way to the recycle bin.

the pulleys all turn at this point, looks like some oil has spilled out....will know more as I get time to plug it in, and see what happens.....

Great find!

Congrats on a great find! Yes, riding on dark lonely roads can be nerve racking, but it's oh so worth it on the drive home! I love the streamlined styling of this model...very cool! Enjoy your "new" Norge!

For those unfamiliar with the place

Ocean City, NJ is down on Cape May and is a beautiful beach/shore town. Very family orientated so no so much "Jersey Shore" sort of thing. In fact the place is a "dry" county so if you want a drinky you'll have to do it in the privacy of your own home.

Ocean City was also voted America's best beach... www.philly.com/philly/blogs/real-...

Great save, Martin!!  This one has a wash temperature selection - neat!   There's service documentation on them in the Ephemera library and you already have a wiring diagram - bonus.  Looking forward to seeing more about this one.  Wonder why??   LOL

Louie, FYI... this is a mid-50's model, about 15 years(?)  before they had the famous "burping" filter agitator.

Those old Norges were really popular back in the 50's. In part I think because Consumer Reports rated them so highly. They washed very well in comparison with most other machines back then. It's a shame they didn't have a better pump on them. That seems to have been a real weak point with those machines. If they had a better pump they would have lasted much longer than most of them did, since the rest of the machine seems to have been pretty well built.

heres a better question......what's the 'off' do on the water temp selection?

designed for water level selections......but then remember to turn back on for the rinse?....

"Off" on water temp knob

appnut's profile picture

Martin, that's like being the Master Power Switch to the whole machine.  On the original Duomatics, the water temp knob was also the master power switch.  On our 1956 GE (that looked like the FF model we see in the ads touting this new feature and like Jetcone's in his collection), our model looked just like the model that was FF, but didn't have a FF.  The buttons where you selected water temp were "off", "warm", "hot" and "water saver".  The "off" allowed you to pause the machine in mid-cycle without having to pull the plug.  Timer dial didn't push or pull to start or stop machine.  This is a BOL model?  I wouldn't think with cold wash option.
