Looks much like the set one of my aunts had (except her was electric & white), bought (I think) in 1969.

What's the little access door on top for? Gas connection or some type of lint filter?

That should be for access to the gas burner.  The filter is in the loading door.

This machine may be a little newer (or older?) than 1969.  I vaguely recall my aunt's may not have had the red and blue shading on the cycle legend.
