I need to make some comments about the LG service (It Sux) I have the LG 3677 Tromm Combo washer / dryer. I do like the machine However. I purchaced it almost 2 years ago from a private appliance store in White Plains New York. I had the machine for 3 months. First I remember after a few weeks the machine leaked from the dispensor and from the door. The cycle times were not running correctly. I had the service from a company called Metro in New Jersey come out nobody in my area in Westchester at that time. The guy didn't know what he was doing and totatly screwed up the machine. Situation worse and to make a long story realy short and a big hassel LG agreed to have the machine replaced. I had the machine for 9 months and it developed a slow leak from the bottom of the front door. I called for service and they found a local guy. He came in 2 days and fixed it by releveling the machine and tightning the door. Problem resolved. Almost 2 weeks ago problem developed again with leak from the door. Being I am in second year of contract I had to call GE warrenty service. They stated I need to wait 48 hours until they find someone. I waited and still after 72 hours they didn't fint anyone and ended refering it back to this same guy that came and fixed it 11 months ago. It took him a additional 6 days to come and service the machine. Claimed because of the Holiday weekend. But thats not a excuse to have to wait 9 days to have a washing machine fixed. And also why isn't their other people that fix these machines. Well machine was fixed or at least I hope it is. He retightened the door and I ran 2 loads after the fact so far no leaks. I have 2 issues here first this should not have happened twice in a year and second why isn't their more people to service these units. And of course not wait so long to get service. I would like to call LG and press them to have more service people be trained. Please comment. Peter |

Peteski, I was VERY impreseed having witnessed your combo. I am sorry you are having a hard time with it. I was thinking of buying one for my soon-to-be rental apt, in that they are 110v (ordinary houselold current for us) and don't need venitng. The water-cooled condenser is a nice plus, too! I believed it would be a nice collectors' piece in the future as well. We shall see. Perhaps you could eventaully put a gas vented dryer where your small combo was in the kitchen and get a regular, ordinary front-loader for the launry closet. Hope it does not come to having to replace your LG (*Largely Garbage*). Best of luck. Let us know how it all ends up. Regards, Steve |

The biggest thing on LG is that they control repair parts. I can go to my parts distributor for most major brands and either get the part the same day or order it in quickly. With LG, they distribute the parts and they are slow. Personally, we will not do any more warranty service for Goldstar, oops, I mean LG. They forgot to send us a dryer tub for a customer and then told that customer that we were lying and that we never contacted LG. That was that. never again. They are also slow in paying the servicer. That's another reason alot of folks aren't servicing them.

People nowadays just don't think about their future service needs when they purchase a major appliance. OOOOH, the fancy off-brand machine looks sooo pretty! And the brand matches my disposable cell-phone! But when your overpriced odd-brand washer fails boy are you in trouble! The lack of good service is very common. I advise my friends to choose carefully and avoid names that aren't institutions in their field. We all know that Maytag, GE, Whirlpool are there for you when the unit poops. Do people actually believe that when you buy an off-brand at a big-box retailer that an EFFECTIVE "Nationwide Service Network" is just waiting for you to call? Ya gotta be kidding. Look ahead and you'll choose.... a brand that has a nationwide service network that works. You know who those brands are. And if you don't - they should be asking their local appliance repairman. And don't believe 18 year old Jason on the sales floor at big-box retailer. I just laugh at people who take those kids' advice seriously. Some are good - most are not.

Hi Paul, Actually I can relate to what you are saying. I wanted to buy a combo and no American manufacturer makes them any more. Actually I had a Equator for 6 years and had to make one service call, and that was 4 years ago. That problem was resolved rather quickly. So I never believed I would have this problem with the LG service. But the extended warrenty is through GE service. They had a hard time locating someone. Seems only one in my area. I do want to make a lot of noise with LG but don't know how to go about doing so. I think if enough people boycotted them and if they realized less people would make purchases they may do something about the lack of service people. I could be wrong however. Any suggestions are more than welcome. And I am wondering how many LG people are amoung us. Thanks, Peter |

GE Extended warranties is likely doing all they can. Most likely they do not have a database of all LG servicers in the nation so they have to scour around - and that takes time. Take good notes of who you talked to at GE Warranties and also give LG a call. Make sure LG makes a record of your call (get a call record number) and tell them you want the name of ALL of the LG washer servicers within a 75 mile radius of your home. You'll then be armed when you need service. GE warranties probably doesn't care who fixes your washer so if you can find someone in advance it'll really help. Strangely enough, you may want to call SEARS service - you'd be surprised what they fix and they're almost everywhere. You really want a variety of servicers to pick from. When your washer goes down, some shops will be busy, closed or unwilling to visit you. You can then go about calling someone else on the list you prepared. Good luck.

Hi Paul Thanks for replying. If I do call LG do you think I should call for the service department? I did speak to so many people at the GE service. As for sears I was wondering if I could get a contract with them but I kind of doubt it because they don't even sell LG and I don't think they want anything to do with them. It is important to get someone that knows what their doing to fix the appliances or else they can screw up badly. Thanks Peter |

When LG laundry products first came on the scene, contacted every single repair person listed for our area on LG's website. Out of about 15 or so only one worked on washers and dryers, and that as a repair department of an LG vendor who only serviced merchandise purchased at that store. This was enough for me to cross LG off my list. I make it a rule never to purchase any major appliance that either my repair person can work on/has heard of, or that has good local service. Wish you the best of luck Pete. Launderess |

i would not count all forgein appliances out. I like my Miele's.I had one little thing that I had to get done. As with all new models of anything, there are bugs to work out. The light in the interior had an issue and the washer would not go into the cycle.Miele sent someone out 48 hours after i called them. They disconected the light, and told me that they would have a fix for it in the future. The man was nice and very knowlageable, very sharp guy. i had the boot replaced after we had a little mishap, It was no problem. it was a very easy fix. As for any other problems, it has been good. Before I bougt my washer and dryer, I did look at the LG.When I finally got in touch with their costomer service--who was an 18 year old guy with sheets of paper w/information on them. When I asked him some questions about his products, he was clueless and tried to talk out of his a**.I was not all all impressed.Service is a big thing when you spend 2000 dollars or more on something.I do like the features that they LG has, i would not however own one if they prize themselves as a "throw away" machine. My mother still has an old Maytag dependable care that works(at 20 yrs old).My old Fridgidaire(1968) worked when I got rid of it in 1993,I bet that it still works.my 2 cents.
