Don't know if this was covered before.

Did not know Crosley was still around. Unfortunately, I get the vibe that they are just using the name and plunking it on Asia made cr@p.

Thoughts?

Look at the washers and then click on one.

What do you see???? WHIRLPOOL

My mom had a new Crosley refrigerator from a few years ago, made by Maytag.

crosley

I wouldn't have another crosley if you gave me one. I went to rent way and rented to own one, at the time i badly needed a washer and dryer, the dryer worked perfectly but the washer was to have had a quiet package built in, "not bloody likely" the thing could not be filled to capacity for it would make the most god awful noises and when it went into spin the neighbors in my apartment building said it sounded like a plane taking off, and you had to hold it in place when it spun for it walked across the floor. so I gave it to a friend who she has 5 kids and needed a washer and dryer, and bought a new gibson (frigidaire made) toploading washer and dryer and i love them, well i love frigidaire anyways

I thought they were WP as well.

Could it be that Crosley throws its badge on eveything as does Sears?

Crosley was basically reincarnated in the early 70's. They are owned by about 70 warehouse/wholesaler/distributors and sold only through independent dealers. It's almost kindof like a buying group. They've had Maytag making laundry (Norgetag), refrigs, stoves, and dw's. Whirlpool is (was now that they also own Maytag) a minor supplier with a few laundry pieces and now some refrigeration. About 2 years ago they were using Electrolux to make some refrigs & el-cheapo dw's. That didn't last long. The nice thing is the 10 year extended warranty that they include at no charge. EX) Dryers get a 10 year parts warranty on the motor & heater. you can't beat that on a $299 rebadged WP dryer. I like the Crosley line. I carry quite a few on the floor.

All very interesting-but that sad fact in their "history" section of the website---1993-started manufacture in Asia. Not the Crosely we used to know!! Bet original Crosely machines are becoming more valueable!!Since I am in the ultra high power broadcasting-loved the info on WLW.I thuink that is amazing he was broadcasting with 500Kw in the 20's.RCA and GE helped build his transmitter to his design. Its still at WLW-but not useable. The 50Kw driver still works-and occasionaly used.

Got Crosley?

I have a 1954 Crosley Shelvador that works to this day. I did buy a Crosley/Norgtag/Herrin Illinois dryer about five years ago. Worked great! Had to leave it at the old house. I need a new gas grill and was thinking about buying a Crosley. Having some trouble finding a dealer that carries it though. I wonder who makes their grills. Hmmm.
My condolences to the Herrin people who are losing their jobs. They've been doin' good work for a good long time.

So I wonder who makes all those Crosley 50s repro radios?

Those

control panels are reminiscent of the Neptune TL panels.

Looks like a rebadged old-style Neptune to me...strange that this particular model isn't on the Crosley website. I'd like to see a "full frontal" as well.

Here is the front shot from the rent way web site. It looks like a maytag.

Yes. It's the 5500 Neptune rebadged. The messed-up thing about the radios is that the Crosley Appliance co. does not make the radios. At about the time they were coming out with the major appliances another company was coming out with the radios under the Crosley name, not realizing that the appliance co already had legal title to the name. From what I understand, the appliance co decided to help ditribute the radios.
paulg , I think the grills are made by Phoenix.

I was close on the radio manufacture thing. Here is a small story (from 2004) on the "new" Crosley. The Buddy Dixson mentioned in the story has since passed away and now his son has taken over for him.
