Hi all,

I'm moving to a new apartment in mid-August that has washer/dryer hookups! Huzzah! The space is for stacked unit(s) only and I definitely want front loaders--I miss my FriGEmores dearly. Does anyone in the Front Rage have a Neptune super stack they're looking to sell? This is my dream machine for the space and I'll go out of my way to find one. I saw one on Craigslist several months back but that was before I was in the market. I'm also open to other suggestions on where to find one.

Thanks!

.
The ad is wrong, Speed Queen still makes a full sized stacked unit.

Stacked or stackable???

revvinkevin's profile picture

That's my one pet peeve about people who post ads on CL, they rarely get the info correct.   Specifically I'll see an ad for stacked Neptune (or other brand) set and will call it "stackable" implying it can be unstacked and put side by side, which the Neptune (and a few others) can't.

Aside from that there are numerous FL sets that can easily be stacked, where you end up with the same result.

Sure SQ makes a stacked FL set, but many people can't (or won't?)  pay nearly $3000 for it.

New Speed Queen Stacked W&D

combo52's profile picture

I sold one today The total with del & installation came to $2350.00, with a REAL 5 year warranty they are actually cheaper than some of the cheaper machines.

Best of all you can do most repairs without moving or unstacking the dryer, there is little dough in my mind that a SQ stack will be cheaper to buy and own in the long run.

I replaced a dryer motor on one the other month in less than 15 minutes without moving the machine at all, there is no other machine out there that you can do that on.

'stackable' may get a few confused......as in some can come apart for moving and installing, YET, must be stacked to operate.....

Such as Maytags SE1000 with TL washer, Neptune, and of course Speed Queen.....

ones like Whirlpool/Kenmore/Frigidaire stay as an All-In-One Stacked unit....which can be a beast to move and install...note they are taller than most Fridges...

I was saying that I can't imagine wanting a neptune stack unit like that. You cannot even see what it's doing as it is operating…what's the fun in that? They aren't that great at washing anyway. With two separate units that stack, you have the advantage of being able to use them side by side or stacked. But as I said, to each his own.

How does stacking or not affect what you can or can't see? Besides, the washers run just fine with a 'dummy door' that's just a frame with a big cut out. A bath towel on the floor takes care of the minimal splashing:-)

Maytag Neptune Stacked Washer&Dryers

Were actually very good machines, like the current SQs you can do most service operations without hiring two men to first unstack them.

IMEO the WORST type of stacked laundry you can have today is two full sized machines stacked in a tight place, when something goes wrong you might as well go buy a new set and through the whole thing away.

It is almost impossible to get machines fixed in this type of installation, in trying to get this type of mess fixed the machines get damaged, your home can get damaged, it is almost impossible to get the dryer vent duct properly connected in these blind installations etc etc. A one piece stack is always better if they are to be used in a vertical installation.

We deal with this every day and if you want to add insult to injury go buy some junk like an LG or Samsung or even the Kenmore's built by the same because the word is out in the DC metropolitan area you can't even book a service on these machines with a decent servicer you are immediately stuck dealing with someone like A&E etc.

See there, EVERYONE has an opinion. Fortunately I have plenty of room where my LG made front loading washer and dryer is stacked. As far as them being "some junk", I've had no problems at all in over 2 years since I bought them. In fact they have been the best washer and dry I have ever owned. I have had Frigidaire, Maytag, Norge, Kelivinator, Philco, Whirlpool and speed queen to name a few. These beat ALL of them in washing ability, rinsing and water extraction with virtually NO linting at all or wear to my clothing or anything else I wash and dry. The only thing that speed queen has going for it, is that it is supposedly made in the USA and the top loading washer is the ONLY traditional style agitator washer that actually fills up with water to wash. The front loader is smaller in capacity and has less features than many others.

My sister had one of these Neptunes for several years. She had lots of trouble with the washer part for the first few years, but that was finally resolved. Liked them OK after that.

WOW over TWO YEARS out of an LG pair with no troubles, you should be sending that into the Guinness Book Of World Records, 80% of even the worst machines usually go two years before anything goes wrong, let us know when they have gone 15 years with no problems, and even then it does not mean a thing because you are only talking about one set of machines used by one person.

My knowledge comes from dealing with a couple hundred customers appliances a week, and not a week goes by that we don't get more than a dozen customers calling and many begging us to fix their BROKEN, LG and Samsung appliances.

Yes, I am WELL aware of your VAST knowledge on the subject and also aware of how intelligent you consider yourself and that ONLY your opinion matters. But I too have worked on and sold washers and dryers for the last 40+ years and have had a much different experience. I used to sell for a place here that sold Whirlpool exclusively for many many years and later added several other brands to their range of appliance sales, one of them being speed queen. So I just consider the source as I am sure you do with me. LG is rated as the #1 front loading machine with the least problems and the best reliability. speed queen is not even rated in the front loaders. They are however the best top loader, not surprising since they are the ONLY one that actually washes and rinses your clothes with a full tub of water. Considering how trouble prone they have been in the past, they would have to be improved I hope. I have watched through the years as they developed into whatever they are now. In the 70's, 80's and 90's they were garbage and the design they have now is very much like the original design of the 80's, so I am skeptical at best. I think one of the reasons they have such a good rating IS because of them being like a traditional top loader and people are used to knowing how to use them. Expectation counts for a great deal with people when it comes to using something the way they are familiar with. And you are right, 2 years is not long for any machine to last. But I HAVE seen many speed queen top loaders that never made it to the 2 year mark back in the 80's and ended up in the junkyard. I have no total confidence in ANY of the machines made today. If my LG made machines turn out to be garbage, I will be the first to announce it. As of now, I have had no problems whatever and they do the best job of any machines I have ever had and save me going to the laundromat with king size comforters. Certainly not something I could do with either a speed queen top or front loader. I actually did try using a speed queen front loader at the laundromat I used to go to for the feather comforter I have. The machine looked almost exactly like the home front loader does and it was so full that when it spun out the comforter it caught the edge of the material and made a small cut on it that had to be repaired. I have nothing against speed queen, just that what they had to offer was not enough to make me want one. I found something that had more of what I wanted and needed that they did not offer. I might also point out that i am not the only one who feels that way and likes my choice of LG laundry equipment. I also would like to point out that I have been repairing washing machines since 1970 and have seen a great deal in that time and had or worked on about every machine in existence. So, I am not just someone who has no idea of what I am talking about.
