Roger and I hit the thrift store because Roger had one of his "vibes," and as usual, that means that something of interest must be there...

How about a DE606 electronic control with that fabulous Halo-of-Heat? This will be Nate's new dryer for the laundry garage :-D...

Or perhaps...

...a Hoover twinny for sport, complete with the owner's manual (and consumer-response card) inside? (Don't worry, it cleaned up beautifully and is far less horrific than you'd think--it's spotless on the control panel, top, and inside.)

And after all that goodness...

Yuck

There is cleaning to do. There was not much oil pumping, because--well--there was not much oil.

And the Karo syrup in the bottom does not qualify.

...and a bearing to replace

roto204's profile picture
There is also the spin bearing to replace. The ball bearings are so destoryed that they look like little rusty pinto beans in a raceway. No wonder it roared like a 747 when it spun!

Congratulations!! Nate such a cool dryer. Now to find its matching mate. And you're making me homesick!!

Roger, you look sooo relaxed with that Unimatic mechanism all around you!!!

What a fun day - that Hoover Deluxe twinnie will be fun to play with. What did you think of the automatic rinsing?

Love the Frigidaire tool - and the "mark of authenticity" is a riot!

Bearing easily available at a bearing shop -----SKF6006 2RSJEM. About $40.00. Just take needle-nose pliers and pull covers off of the raceways and you are ready to go.

Oh, and I wish the mechanisms I end up working on were all as clean looking at yours! Mine are ALWAYS "rusted hulks"!

Hi Roger and Nate, It was great talking to you guys last night! Once again congratulations on the two great finds. I loved your genuine "Frigidaire" tool, how clever!! As always it looks like you guys are having a great time. Keep us posted on the Frigidare! Terry

LOL

Thanks, everyone :-P

Bob -- we miss ya, and can't wait to have you back! Looks like we may have more new fun stuff to play with after all :-P

Greg -- LOL!! That shows what a sick mind and a Sharpie marker can do :-P Roger got the pump all fixed and lubricated on the twinnie, and said that it works fabulously, but that the automatic rinse isn't exactly all-that-and-a-bag-of-potato-chips. I'll have to see it next time it runs and try to see what the fuss is about :-P

Steve R. -- thank you very much for the bearing information! Yes, we've been surprised at how clean this machine is in general...it wanted to be saved :-D

Terry -- it was great to talk to you too! :-) We will keep you posted...can't wait to see Roger with some "Live Water" action going on. The other machines will probably have an inch of dust on them when the Frigidaire is up and going :-P

Wow Great Job you guys! The mechanism looks like its in fine shape. My turquoise '58 Unimatic was full of water for over 25 years and it restored perfectly so you will have no issue with that one.

Glad you got it all apart. I would soak all of those parts in mineral spirits and let it dry for a few days. Then use Ace-Hardware air compressor oil as a replacement oil.
