Earlier this week, I took delivery of an Elux 617 pair.
All in, I got out the door with the set on pedestals with a 5 year warrantee for under 2K.
I have only run two loads through so far. But here are some preliminary observations...

1. Spins after wash bath, rinses, then final spin.
2. Doesn't fart around with stepped spinning. Final spin is 0 to 60 in mere seconds.
3. Whites cycle + Stain Soak = ~80 minutes of heated wash bath.
4. Last rinse fills to wash level with FS, after a minute of tumbling, water ups to about an inch on the glass.
5. Dryer Normal cycle defaults to include ECO option. Load of jeans took 42 min. Front of dryer never got warm to the touch.
6. Washer has wrinkle release. After final spin, load tumbles for 10 minutes to fluff up load. No more shaking out clothing before it goes in the dryer.

Will post more observations as they come into light...

Malcolm

Yes, because

I may need a new washer sooner than I want to. I've always heard good things about LG front loaders.
What did I see in a garage in my neighborhood last week? One of those nice shiny barely used Kenmore Elites with the square door and window.
It is still sitting out there, so I don't think they just bought it to use it. I know they do not have a summer place either to take it to.

Sounds pretty impressive. I have one of those Kenmore Elite LG made front loaders with the square door. I sure hope it doesn't disappoint me. It has been great so far after over 2 years and hasn't missed a lick yet. Time will tell I guess. I do have the protection agreement until 2020 for it and the dryer though. I bought it because it was the largest capacity I could get at the time and it matched the rest of my stuff from Kenmore. It seems like John (combo) said something about the new machines made today lasting longer than the old ones did. I sure hope that is right!!! This washer and dryer is the first I have ever bought just for the usability of them and not because of anything else. I would have preferred a top loader, but the only one fit to use is a Speed Queen one and the capacity was too small for a giant king size feather comforter. Besides, front loaders seem to do much better with bulky items like that anyway.

Awesome, Malcolm.  I was hoping you'd purchased them.  Looking forward to more reviews/observations...and photos, of course.

Congratulations and have fun with your new pair!

Yes, I still have them. They are in the garage till further notice. I will hang on to them for at least six months before making any drastic decisions.

Spins between rinses

So, one question because I'm not sure if I got you right there: It only spins after the main wash and after all rinses are done, right? And how many rinses does the Normal cycle default to?

Post# 891785 , Reply# 9   7/31/2016 at 06:51 (2,797 days old) by mrb627 (Buford, GA)
Correct.

mrb627's profile picture
The Normal cycle only spins after the wash and then after all rinses.
However, setting the soil level to Max changes a lot more than just wash time.
Rinses are doubled in time, spins between rinses, and I have to pay closer attention, but I believe it adds a rinse.
Normal cycle defaults to two rinses.

Colors cycle spins after first rinse, then only at final spin.
Rinse water up on glass only occurs on whitest whites.
I haven't run the heavy duty cycle yet.

Recirculating spray can really froth up the wash water at the beginning as the pump may suck air before additional water is added.

I'm still trying to pinpoint what each progress dot means under the countdown timer.

I also need to reverse the doors on both machines.

rinse water up to the glass door

mark_wpduet's profile picture
on whitest whites? I'll bet this happens on heavy duty too - could be wrong, but I get that vibe.

Anyway, it's funny how things are changing. My ancient duet uses the same level for everything (which isn't to skimpy with water) but it doesn't come up to the glass - EVER. Mostly making modifications only creates longer times/heater being active, etc, not water levels. From what I can always tell, the washes and rinses are the same levels, unless it's delicate or soak, which basically do nothing major, so I never use them unless I need to soak something.

But the drum is so tilted in my Duet - When I use the clean washer cycle, it has to feel with A LOT of water before even thinking about touching the glass. I'm thinking if it were a non-tilted drum, it potentially could be touching the glass, or at least the boot, I dunno.

Is the drum tilted in these?

Tilted Drum = YES

The drum is tilted on the Elux machines. Reminds me of the Neptunes, actually.

Well Malcolm

mark_wpduet's profile picture
If the drum is tilted, and it fills with enough water to touch the glass in whitest whites, that's a lot of freaking water! I love machines that use a lot of rinse water so you know they are getting well rinsed.

Rinse water up the glass on Whitest Whites: Does the manual suggest using liquid chlorine bleach in that cycle? The manual for my 2010 Frigidaire did. Perhaps the extra water in the final rinse is to help remove chlorine bleach.

I'll have to download the manual for your 617 and compare it to the Frigidaire I used to have. The Stain option you mentioned is definitely different.

I really like the 'Nest-like' look of the control dial. What do you think of it?

Hurry up and dirty a lot of clothes/bedding/towels so we can get more insights into the new Elux, LOL!

Good Morning Malcom,

Does this washer have a recirculating spray like the LG? Or is the water/detergent spray only at the beginning of the wash?

Please advise. I am in the market for a new washer and I really like the turbo wash feature of the LG. If this washer does the same, I would go for it.

Thank you,

Richard

Ive been toying with getting the 617s. I love the way they look. I cant believe no one else has a reverse door besides electrolux.

Anyways, from what I am understanding, the 617 has a pre-mix / powerfoam type thing, correct?

Does the dryer still reverse tumble?

You'd think as a sales person that carries this brand, i'd already know the answer but... Trying to get info from the reps is like pulling teeth.

1. Not sure if the manual suggests bleach for WW, I don't really use bleach for anything other than kitchen towels.

2. The detergent is washed from the dispenser to a chamber underneath the tub. It is mixed for a bit and then pumped up and over the wash load. The pump runs most of the time, including the rinses. I imagine the softener being blended with water before coming into contact with the laundry will eliminate FS staining in cold rinse water.

3. The dryer does not reverse tumble. Haven't found any need for it, so far.

They really are smart machines. I especially like the delayed start on both the washer and dryer. I'm still trying out different cycles and options. Also, I haven't reversed the doors yet either.

I'll snap a couple pictures tonight.

I have an Elux 60 series pair, as far as I know delay is available only on the washer....though I can see how it would be useful on a dryer as well.

Can't quite fathom the reviews on reviewed.com. The older 60/70 was rated #2, the site seemed to love them. Neither the new model nor the 60/70 did very well in CR reviews, the worst category being Noise with only a "Good" rating. Since mine are in the garage, noise never has been an issue.

Wow Malcolm this is awsome - I have a feeling these new units will out sell LG and Samsung and probably also steel speed queen in sales due to the price difference!
I like the simplicity in the controls the Electrolux has compared to the others.
Best Of Luck with them,

I wish casuals had hot wash as an option rather than just steam option for warm.  Warm with steam on my Duet, for comparable cycle, is noticeably cooler than when hot wash temp is selected.

Wow

I envy you that pair.

It seems like they corrected most of the bugs of EIFLS60 - rinse levels below the drum, just recirculated, on all cycles; spins between all rinses only on Allergen and Sanitize; fast redistribution; redundant "touch-to-open".
How does it fill for warm? Hot first, then dumb down with cold? If it mixes from the beginning, I envy you even a bit more!

Casuals and Colors

mrb627's profile picture

I use the Colors cycle instead of Casuals. So the temp is not limited.

It is difficult to tell how the temp mixing works as the water doesn't flow into the drum directly.

It does appear changing the soil level to Max alters more than just the wash time.

The longest wash cycle is listed at 199 minutes. Although, that is the hinges number the machine can display.

A few questions when you have time, Malcolm:

1) Which cycles allow you to choose the sanitize water temp and how much time does it add to the cycle?

2) How much time does the steam option add to a cycle?

3) What does the 'wrinkle release' option do?

That's a sharp-looking set! Love the color.

Malcolm,  I know its a new work week..When you get to it would love to see it wash. If there are stain options one would think warm would fill with cold first (blood or grass stains) then top off with hot to create warm? It seems to be really advanced.   A

Sanitary temp is available in heavy duty, whitest whites, and normal.
The amount of time added depends on cycle. Normal 30min, ww 52min, HD 4min.

Steam adds 20min, unless you have selected sani temp.

Wrinkle release adds 10 min of dry tumbling after final spin to fluff up the clothes.

Hi Malcolm.

I have the 70 series washer and dryer that have just past their one year old mark.

Over 250 washes (tracked by suggested clean cycle every 50 washes).

I've read that the Pre-wash doesn't drain and spin before going into the main wash program, is that true? Does it just go into the main wash without draining and spinning (like the 60/70 does)?

I also don't like how it doesn't tell you what part of the cycle it's on. Like it doesn't say it's Pre-washing, Rinsing, Washing, Draining, Spinning, Adding Steam...etc (like the 60/70 does). So you don't know where in the cycle it is.

Along with what you like...what don't you like? I know the cycle times are way longer.

I really love my Electrolux 70 series washer and dryer.

Would love to see videos of your 6xx.

All the best with the Elux's.

Progress Lights

mrb627's profile picture

Okay. I am learning a little.

There are six progress LEDs underneath the countdown timer. Here is what I think they mean...

1. Load Sense / Stain Soak
2. Steam
3. Washing
4. Wash Spin
5. Rinse
6. Final Spin

Led 2 gets skipped, so I am assuming it represents steaming. Idk for sure, though.

Sounds like my LG set.  None of the cycles are set in stone either.  Even the tumble and spins are very different considering the load weight.

Makes it much more interesting.

Just to add to this discussion, I bought the set a couple months ago and the chrome on the front control panel started to peel off. I emailed Electrolux to get it replaced and after several exchanges with the customer service rep, they agreed to send a replacement free of charge. The washing on this is excellent but we shall see about its durability.

Is there a variance in tumbling speed between whites, heavy duty, normal and causal? Or does it vary within the cycle, like slow to fill or drain, but aggressive when main washing or rinsing?
