There was a brief thread about the takeover a couple of months back.
Although Sun has done a decent job with the legacy Lever Brothers products, I assume Henkel will have more marketing and R&D heft and will give P&G a tougher time. Both Lever and Colgate abandoned the North American laundry detergent market because it was just too hard to make money against the Cincinnati juggernaut. Maybe Henkel sees something they didn't. In any case, consumers should benefit. |

Lever Bros became Diversey-Lever for a short time before selling to Sun (then Lever became Unilever). You are probably seeing either old stock for sale, or old content on the webpage.
. Had Unilever kept the detergent division and brought the UK Persil formula over, they might still have given P&G a better run for their money. Instead, the door was left open for Henkel to come in and stomp P&G. |
