OMG, that was our first dryer! Fluff, Low and Super-Fast were the three settings. I believe there was one operating temperature thermostat, but Low and Super-Fast were two different input levels. The flame level was different.

This is going to be more fun to watch than a mouse let loose at a burlesque show.

Amazing that there seem to be so many of these still around after all these years.... Nice set too! Too bad the dryer isn't gas, those were really quick drying. When these were made was about the time they introduced the large capacity model that took completely over. The solid tub model, like this one, was very good at washing and spun out well too. They had improved the pumps by then, so this washer lasted longer with fewer repairs. Other than the pump problems Norge had with the 50's machines, they were pretty decent washing machines. I know that like Frigidaire and a few others, the current draw when they would spin out blew out fuses fairly easily and was rough on timers too.

TIMED DRYING?

Oh, heavens yes. Like most Norge Dryers of the time, this had a spring-wound timer.

We bought the dryer at the same time that we bought the GE 18.8 Spacemaker and that was more like 1961, I think.

Norge did not offer auto dry on their own machines until after they put the two auto dry cycles on the Wards Her Majesty dryer with "Velvet Heat" in the mid 60s. It used a two stage burner that ran on high until a certain temperature was reached, then the heat input was lowered until a second temperature was reached and then the dryer went into cool-down.

If nobody buys this set by the weekend, I'll buy it and give it a good home.

Tom, our 1964 Norge pair that was mirrored in the Monkey Wards set Robert acquired, did have auto dry for regular and wash'n'wear.  I was just curious if Norge brought out that feature before 1963/1964.  Obviously not.
