If I HAD to ever replace my 1984 Maytags, it would be a Speed Queen top loader as close as possible to what I have now.

I replaced my 15 year old Whirlpool earlier this year with a new SQ LWN432 and backed it up with a 10 year old $100 Miele W1966.

I DID replace my late 90's Maytag top load set with a front load, huge capacity LG made Kenmore Elite set that stack on top of each other. That was about 3 years ago and I have never been happier with my laundry results.

I just replaced an almost 20-year-old Asko with a $200 low mileage Miele w1986.  Plan to have the Asko timer replaced in the near future.  But for now enjoying a little "Immer Besser" technology.

However, if I HAD to buy a new washer I would really like to have the new SQ front loader....if it will fit in my closet.  If not, then one of the compact LG, Electrolux/Kenmore front loaders.

Well, in all preferance,

I'd really, really like a "Concepcione". Never heard of one? Then you don't know many maids LoL.
If I could afford one, I'd make sure she had a legal work visa, or a green card, and be generous wether she was a live in or not.

I have had a front load set of LG machines for almost two years and they are the best washer and dryer I've ever owned -- solid, quiet, fast and fantastic performance. There is no other set I would rather have.

These models have every option I want including a water heater. Speed Queen FLs may be quality built, but the lack of a water heater instantly disqualifies them in my book, especially considering their price tag.

I would not want any top loader built today, agitator or otherwise.

Good case against the SQ TL/FL. Not so much the $100 240V Miele.

GE Washer Whirlpool Dryer

I replaced my 90 Whirlpool DD with a Kenmore/Whirlpool 28102 top loader a year after I bought my house and it works great for us as my gold plated water bills were killing me. Bigger, much quieter, and clothes get cleaner than before. I checked reviews before I bought it and it was rated very well and should be mostly easy to repair and parts should mostly be cheap too. Price was great as a demo too with full factory warranty. Next year I bought the newer version of the dryer and same thing, huge capacity, quiet, and saves on my electric bill as its more efficient and does twice the clothes per load, also a demo for a great price. Not everyone can afford a SQ and there is also the huge water bills some of us get stuck with. I save about 50 a bill every 3 months compared to the water guzzling monster before it.

SQ

I am, in fact, buying a SQ front loader this weekend. I am keeping my vintage fleet in service, and only intend to use the SQ a few times per month, mostly on bulky items that cannot easily be washed in my other machines.

I worked in the appliance parts business for several years selling parts for most major appliances. I chose SQ because their performance was reputed to be quite good and their durability so much better than the competition.

In the parts business, we regarded Samsung and LG as the bottom of the barrel. We even referred to LG as "Luxury Garbage." The LG & Samsung appliances tended to be good performers and be well-featured, but their durability was poor, most service technicians refused to work on them, and they tended to have the absolute worst parts-support.

Your mileage may vary,
Dave

Speed Queen all the way!

If I had to replace our DD Kenmore from '92 and Lady Kenmore dryer with a new washer & dryer set, I'd definitely choose a Speed Queen. Nothing now can hold a candle to Speed Queen. Better built than any other brand washer, AND washes better in my opinion.

If I had to buy a new washer and dryer I would be interested in an AEG toploader and an AEG heatpump dryer.

I think if SQ would just step it up with their front loaders and add a heat boost, they would win over a LOT of people. That is really the one option I would want to have that they don't offer as of yet.

Speed Queen Top Loader: It uses a sane amount of water, which is great for pet hair and lint and it is based on a proven mechanism.

If money were no object, I'd opt for a Miele, an Asko (I had them once; best machines I ever owned, except they became too expensive to repair); or a SQ front-loader.

But, since I don't have that kind of money any more, I DO have my TL of choice; a SQ AWN4342S.
Say what you will about the HE TL's (good or bad). But for me, I've always preferred an "old school" TL to the HE varieties.

I have a "MINO" ("Maytag In Name Only") dryer.

I just bought a new Maytag set...the MVWB765FW 4.7 cu ft direct drive with agitator. New washers are getting better and better. This one is very solid. I'm excited to try it.

I will chime in here and say that I would go with a SQ top loader if I had the extra $$
My 50 year old Maytag A606 died and all I want is a machine that actually fills with water, has an agitator, doesnt shred my clothes and also does not take an hour to wash a load.

Speed Queen top load here. I bought it last year when the Kenmore caught on fire. I think it's a good washer, time will tell how it holds up. It's definitely the last of the old school wash system. I'm glad I bought it when I did, and as some members have said, it isn't cheap. I think that for the money paid it could hold more clothes, that's just my honest humble opinion.

I would be getting Speed Queens definitely.

They'll be Front Loaders.

And if I need a Compact Front Loading Set, then I'll be getting LG's.

I'll know in a few years

Bought two new washing machines just a couple of months ago. Since I like a top loader and a front loader I got one of both.

I ended up with a Speed Queen TL and the TOTL Samsung Addwash (Sears had one with a dented top for $499, otherwise I'd probably have ended up with something else). The SQ is a digital control one, I bought it from a local dealer that is closing the sales portion and only doing repair work so it was cheaper to buy the digital one.

We generate a lot of laundry. We killed a GE front loader in 8 years and a Haier top loader in 4.

I'll be curious to see how this plays out. One thing I'll say is the Addwash has the smoothest spin cycle of any consumer front loader I've used which might help with bearing wear and life.

So the longevity test is in play right now. My money is on the SQ. It is less flashy and more straightforward, this usually plays out well.

I'm not worried about digital controls my parents have a digital control top loading Amana from when Circuit City stopped carrying appliances and it's still humming along just fine 16 years later.

The Samsung is all gimmicky. It does wash extremely well though.
